Have Ryanair Started to Overbook?

When checking in, Ryanair now say that if your boarding sequence number is higher than 189 then you need to report to the check in desk at the airport. As a Ryanair flight can carry 189 passengers, does this mean if your number is 190 then you are the 190th person to check in? If 189 people check in before you, and you're bumped off, are you covered by the EU compensation like with any other airline?

Nope
All it means is that loads of people checked in- and then cancelled their flights for some reason (we're most probably seeing this frequently lately due to the recent ash disruptions) - the sequence number doesn't go down, but goes over 180 - so the airport people basically have to check you in properly and confirm the exact number of people that are going to be on the plane.
Done it a couple of times, no biggie!0 -
IF they did it you would be covered by EU compensation.0

Made me look into it anyway and the reasoning above sounds plausible about why they want those over 190 to have a second check in just to be sure. That said it has highlighted that the 14/15 day online checkin isn't actually true and it's more like 21/22 days in advance that it opens0
