Cheapest way to call home from Florida?
Hi
Could someone tell me the cheapest way for my son to call his girlfriend while she is on holiday in florida.
And the cheapest way for her to ring him here.
They both have vodafone contracts.
This is the first time they have been apart so you can imagine how many calls they will be making:eek: .
Thanks

Don't know if this would be an option. I did this when holidaying in Florida a few years ago. Bought phone card from walmart for $5 and followed instructions to phone UK. Just kept talking till it ran out. Got quite a long time and that was in afternoon. Seemed to be better than buying a higher value phone card and connecting several times. Hope this helps. No experience of telephoning USA from UK.0

If I helped you spend some money - spank me
If I done both - :lipsrseal me:eek:0 -
he could use his T-mobile whenever minutes with a calling card like noni says, tell them both that Voda 2 Voda calls are a big no no, as well as voda 2 USA mobile/landline or they will have "massssssive" bills - incoming roaming calls on Vodafone extortionate in USA, international calling from UK aint much better, "she" gonna have to rely on calling from and "him" to landlinesIf I helped or saved you money - Thank me
If I helped you spend some money - spank me

god sake how did i miss this?

£1.50 buys 30 untimed calls @ 5p connection rate @ 0.00p per minute
( god she'll never be off the phone & his brain will be fried from the mobile! )
or the 0844 number above buys 150 mins for £1.50, its a no brainer really
ironic how its gonna be cheaper to call him that far away than @ home on mobile, between the two of you checking in at that price your sons going be feeling like he's not abroad on holiday lol - give him my apologies, I was only doing a fellow mSe'r a fav, you did ask after allIf I helped or saved you money - Thank me
If I helped you spend some money - spank me

Networks there use different frequency bands, but you'd be fine with a triband or quadband from here - go for T-mobile (on 1900) if triband
As seaniboy says, forget roaming in USA with Vodafone and get a local SIM card - details of networks and tariffs at http://www.prepaidgsm.net/en/usa.html
As you'll see, US networks charge for both outgoing and incoming calls at about 10c to 20c per minute, but are the same price to call as landlines.
Use a calling card to call UK from USA. From a landline is cheaper (via tollfree number) at about 2c per minute; same charge from mobile, plus the mobile tariff of course.
Calling from here, because of the incoming charge on the SIM there, it would be best to arrange a time when a landline can be called. If calling from a mobile here look at a calling card or the arrangement seaniboy mentioned or a call18185 account.
To summarise, calls in either direction would total about 7 or 8 pence a minute to/from the US mobile (and the inclusive minutes on Vodafone - and check out stop-the-clock) or about a penny a minute between landlines
For calling cards see
https://www.cloncom
https://www.masterbell.com
https://www.pinonsale.com
I'd go for Bizon at Masterbell, which could be used from both countries0 -
From a properly configured and subscribed UK home phone, you can 1899 to a US landline or to a true US mobile for 1p a minute - or so it seems to say on the website.
