Depending on what level of competition is available in your exchange area its possible that you could get line rental (£9/month) same broadband ( £15-£20/month) and anytime call plan ( £4.99/month before discount) so if out of contract with BT, call them say you are looking to move to a cheaper supplier and expect to get an offer in the region of £30/month,for line broadband and calls, apart from mobiles/international and premium rate calls etc....about £30/month saving, lots of people complain that if this is possible why dont they get it automatically, but thats not the way business works, if someone is happy to pay full price, all telcos not just BT, will happily take your money.
The 'free evening and weekend plan' is the one that comes with a rolling/renewable 12month contract, the 'free weekend plan' doesnt have the rolling 12 contract so perhaps you didnt want to be locked in for periods of 12 months so were moved onto the non contract (apart from the initial 12 month when contract started) option

    Thanks :D
I really have no problem with BT and dont particularly want to move, i just think the £60 is wayyyy too high!
I will gather prices for Plusnet and Sky then give BT a call and see what they might offer me.
I came to the end of an 18 month contract at least 18 months ago, but they have never been in contact to try and lock me into anything else. Funny though, im pretty sure my free evening calls have just recently stopped.

Never mind, thanks for the advice, i will give them a call and see what happens :)

For calls look at a caller preselect deal - I use http://www.call1899.co.uk/index2.php there are a couple of others that are essentially the same 18866 and 18185 - you prefix the number you are ringing with 1899 and all you pay is 5p connect as the per minute charge is 0p - more for mobiles 0845 0870 and premium obviously. There is no monthly fee - you just pay for usage.

There is also an alternative to Sky - Freesat -you can continue to use the Sky box + dish by getting Freesat from Sky or just keep the dish and buy a new Freesat box (the Humax ones are good).

For broadband just about any provider will be better and cheaper than BT so checkout the suggestions above.

But you are only paying BT this much because you are on the wrong tariff!. Presumably you are making a lot of daytime calls when you are only on an unlimited weekend and evening package? Or evening calls when you are only on an unlimited weekend package? Switch to Anytime (£4.99) and all these calls will be inclusive.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Are you sure they haven't just transferred you onto a new contract? IIRC BT no longer give evening calls with their new packages.

They started dishing out the evening calls package as a freebie - the catch is that it has a 12 month contract so if you want to move from BT at any time there is a good chance you'll have to pay a penalty on the notional price which isn't £0. I cancelled mine when they changed the hours as I knew there was a good chance I'd be binning BT - line fault which they still didn't fix after 5 callouts so I did bin them in favour of cable. That's rubbish too but at least I can use the phone.

Just a wee update. Called BT today with all intentions of moving to Co-op phone and broadband. Spoke to a woman who offered me to stay with BT and have their all-singing all-dancing package for £37 a month :) Told her i would think about it and call back, which i duly did an hour later.
Got the most wonderful and funny guy who told me he could go one better and gave me the whol lot (unlimited BB, line rental and anytime calls) for £32 a month!! :j:j Not only that but he let me have a new home hub too included at no extra charge :D

Im back on a 12-month contract, but at that price i really dont mind. As i said before, i really have no issues with BT :)

Thanks for all the advice xxxxx
