Please Help, Paypal is the enemy

  • This is awful.
In my eyes this shows the lengths paypal will go to to protect their profits, without giving a toss about sellers (or buyers at times). They were just pre-empting the credit card charge-back, no doubt about it. Why else would they blatantly ignore the buyers statement of receipt of the item?
I think a new thread should be started which focuses on collecting examples of cases such as these, which when bulky enough can be presented to Trading standards or whatever the the relevant authority is. Come on people- we can bring them to rights if we try I'm sure. :j

There are already many sites about this, just type Paypal and sucks into Google. There already were and currently are class action lawsuites against them. Ranging from unfair, and unenforcable terms in their T&C to them holding onto peoples' money for no good reason.

At the end of the day the OP didn't read the convoluted T&C's of Paypal and got scammed for it. But not many people do read pages of text and Paypals T&Cs can be vague.
People don't tend to read the T&Cs especially when installing software and signing up for things on the Internet (I'm guilty of this), yet they wouldn't dream of doing this if they were applying for a loan in a bank.

Let this be a lesson to all. When you are applying/signing up for something online please READ ALL THE T&C DON'T JUST ACCEPT

Like Print screen says you must know what you are agreeing to when you sign up to things. The OP would have got the same response from any merchant account he used to accept a payment.

Also, it is worth pointing out that the OP accepted the risk of total loss when he was warned by the Post office that his item was not covered.

Paypal only covers you if ALL of the following applies:
    • Item was sent to UK/USA/Canda
    • Item was sent to confirmed/verified address in these countries
    • Item was sent with a method that can be tracked online
    • Item delivery can be confirmed online

Would all the above be covered if you sent the phone(to another uk address) by special delivery. Is there any insurance included with this method of delivery?

Special delivery is tracked and does include insurance... of £150, I think? Possibly more.

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j
