Hi everyone. The letter went out on 5th Feb, so she's got about 2 1/2 weeks left. Haven't heard anything, but I have my "pet" solicitor on standby.;)
I'll let you know how I get on......0 -
Update...
Got my ring posted back to me this morning - still unrepaired, with a covering letter saying she had done all she could to get it repaired and that her repairers couldn't find a suitable stone (copy of their report attached). She says she also has contacted Trading Standards due to me having phones then first and they agree with her there is nothing more she can do. Hmmm, not the advice I was given.....
However, I took the ring to a jewellers in town today and have asked for a written estimate and quote for the repair. I will take it to at least one other jewellers for a quote too. My friendly solicitor may be writing that letter he promised, if the other jewellers say they can get it repaired.
If I do have to get my money back, do you think I'd be entitled to more than I paid given that over 18 months has past and prices have increased? I just want to be able to buy something of comparable value.0 -
No advice ....
... but, I am soooooo pleased for you that you even got the ring returned!!!! I agree with getting a couple of quotes and checking out other jewellers. Good luck!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Latest - got a call today from the jewellers quoting for repair. £35, can be done within TWO weeks, no problems sourcing a stone! Will have a chat with my solicitor mate, to see who should write a letter to her and what best to say. TBC......0

FINALLY - two weeks ago I had another telephone conversation with the shop owner, who thought her having to pay £35 was too much. Long discussion ensued, with me threatening small claims court and her saying OK then, go for it. I would have done but my dad is very ill at the moment and so haven't the time or inclination to really go that route. Eventually we settled on her paying £25. I was beginning to think it wasn't going to turn up, but got a letter today to say she'd sent the money directly to the jeweller that quoted for the repair. This I find a bit petty, but as I'm actually going to have it repaired there, it makes no odds in the end. I'll just have to go in today/tomorrow and take the ring back, because they are probably wondering what the cheque is all about
So, as long as the ring doesn't cost a lot more than the £35 quoted, all should be ended. At last!
Ah well, I won't be frequenting cough (Keogh's) cough at Botany Bay, Chorley, ever again. - oooh, did I let something slip there?0 -

So pleased for the good result Ticklemouse.
I've just had a bad (but no where near as bad as yours) experience with a local jeweller. Well, he was just plain rude. Mr-nearly-VickyA proposed and was going to use a diamond from his late gran's "dress ring" and get it set for me in platinum. Went into the local family owned jewellers to ask for a quote. We were served by a pleasant enough lady, but who had to keep checking with the owner whether they could get a quote. He was saying "well, it'll have to be handmade" - no sh*t shirley - in a grumpy 'get those !!!!!! people out' type way and then "it'll cost about £700 - 800". Ooooh, you don't say, it's going to cost money! Well, that is a shock. After walking around the town, we managed to talk ourselves out of it.
Got my mum to phone a jewellers that she's bought stuff from before 100 miles from where we live. We couldn't have been treated better. Bent over backwards, suggesting settings AND quoting half the price of the other bloke. Brilliant, personal service and we get 20% off our wedding rings next year.......................Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0
