Fined in Wakefield

Hello,

Due to the recently changed roads in Wakefield, I thought I'd make things easier for myself and park in the car park across the road from the station to collect my boyfriend.

I parked in the Smythe Street car park and stayed in my car the entire time and I've received a Parking Charge Notice letter saying that I owe them £60 for "Code 94 Parked without displaying a valid ticket/permit". However, no one patrolled the car park so I didn't actually realise that I was at fault by just waiting in an almost empty car park.

They've supplied grainy footage of my car entering and leaving the car park. I'm worried though as I did the same thing the week after so I guess I'm to expect another letter in the post.

I didn't receive a parking ticket either time though. I'm really stuck as to what I should do.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks,
Steph

Is this a private car park or council? If it was private, what was the company's name?

Private (I'm assuming!), the letter is from Excel.

To answer my own question, it looks as though this is a private car-park run by our old friends Excel:-

Parking fine row boss calls for sympathy

In that case this is not a "fine", it's an unenforceable invoice. You do not have to pay, ignore any correspondence from the company and do not contact them.

For further reassurance please read the other threads on here that deal with private car parking companies.

Thanks - I've been reading over lots of the threads but I guess I'm just paranoid as I now wonder if I was doing something wrong by just waiting in there.

Which car park the one next to the Pizza place of the one over the road, the latter is Council owned.
Beware those road changes are likely to be happening til nearly xmas! I think you can park in the station carpark for 20mins if your picking up someone.

It's defiantly Excel, see Steph's answer above.

Yeah DKLS, you can get 20 minutes in the station, the problem I was having was turning right to get out of the station now that they've closed the road behind the station by the prison (not sure what it's called) all the traffic that was going up there is now going in front of the station.

Get out of the mindset of doing 'something wrong'. This is a scam perpetrated by a very well known cowboy outfit.

All you have is an unenforceable invoice.

    • do not pay
    • do not contact them
    • ignore any threatening letters
    • they will give up and go away

In this instance they're isn't even a contract between you and Excel since you just drove in and waited without looking at any signs.

I like this from that parking ticket:-

"Code 94 Parked without displaying a valid ticket/permit".

Yet another example of a private parking company trying to fool people into believing they have the same status as the council. They are beneath contempt.

I can't understand the problem. The OP parked their car in the car park and didn't buy a parking ticket. Whether the parked car had someone sitting in it or not is immaterial - the car is parked.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
