As Crabman was querying, it is a ridiculous system where there are many qualified and good engineers (who incidently are allowed to do work under the Warmfront scheme where you get £300 towards repairs etc. if they register with Warmfront) who are ready and waiting to carry out a good, quality job within a couple of weeks and who would charge far less than the amount of grant that is available for new boilers under the Warmfront scheme and so would be saving the Government and ultimately the taxpayer an enormous amount of money.

I would add that I am not writing this because we dont have any work ourselves, because luckily we have!!

    Hi Crystaltips and LisaLou

I have just joined today to find out if there is anyone else like us. We were accepted on the 6th October 2009 and nothing has been done yet!

We found out today that our job hasn't been allocated either.

Like you Crystaltips we believed that it was 6 months from the day you were accepted but found out the same way as you that it was 6 months from allocation.

When the lady assessed us we were told that they weren't busy and it should be done fairly quickly. Our last electricity bill was just under £600 because we have to use electric for heating, we are living in a mobile home at the moment and it was very cold over the winter.

Another problem with us is that it's oil fired central heating and they seem to be finding that a problem. Don't know if it's because Ideal don't make oil fired boilers.
  • Hi Waterlily, i am finding this waiting so frustrating as my friend applied 4 weeks before me and had her heating installed in Feb. So i dont understand why mine is taking so long, grrrr :( My electricity bill is rediculous ,also about £600/quarter, and i am sick of having to monitor the hot water in the tank! (2 kids in the house).

Hi again Crystaltips, yes it's very frustrating. I don't see how they can say that things are done in the order that they come in, they certainly don't seem to be from what I can see.

I'm sure we are being 'put back' because we are oil fired but surely we aren't the only ones! There are a lot of people in this area and all round that are oil simply because there is no gas! lol

Nobody seems to care, I think we will be going to CAB to see if they can help in any way. It's just not fair if things aren't being done in order.

Hope you can get things sorted quickly now.
  • Let me know how you get on at the CAB! My case is tricky too, i need gas bringing in to the house from the road, so i too wonder if i am being 'put back'! Interesting!!

Will let you know, if we can get into town on Friday we might go then but otherwise it'll be on the 25th when they come to our tiny village for a couple of hours.

Looks like they are dealing with the 'easy' cases first doesn't it!!!

What annoys me most is that it says six months on the website, nothing about from when you're allocated (We only found that out when the first six months was up and hubby had phoned them quite a few times before that)!!
  • Yep, me too, i only found out recently that its from allocation. My original 6 months is up on June 1st. Thought i would be done and dusted by then:(. I wonder if its a new thing as nothing was said until recently? The original poster on the other thread said things changed in May, and i remember my assessor saying the same thing; getting plumbers to do the original assessment and cutting down on staff. Maybe this is a 'new line' to tell the public that lets them off the hook regarding the 6 months??
  • As of 19/5/10 my job has now been allocated!! Yeehaw!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi again Crystaltips, that's great, we still haven't heard anything, just going to phone them. I was wondering if Fenhams are doing yours?

Hope you get a date quickly.
  • Hi Waterlily, its East Coast Gas that are doing mine, they have branches everywhere. Just spoke to the local office, the engineer is coming in 2 weeks to look, then she said it should take no more than about 2 months to complete :))
