hey
am i in the wrong?
my son's school rang me saying he was having a coughing fit and was sick and would need to be sent home, so i rang work and told them i wouldn't be in today as my son was sick.
my partner then rang me and told me that his brother would have my son and i have to go to work. i was only working 3 hours and getting £10 once i'd paid for my bus ticket.
his brother has a 8 month old so i declined the offer as i didn't want to give a baby a sickness bug.
i am now going to lose my job or have my hours docked at work because i didn't go is what my partner is now saying.

Has you employer threatened you with dismissal?0 -
Work cannot sack you because you took time off with a sick child, they can however refuse to pay you for the day.fly_dragon_fly wrote: »hey

no shouldn't have.his sorry just edited this to say that is what my partner was informing me.
if my company did that god i would sue them.0 -
Then if you know you aren't going to get sacked what is it you are asking?fly_dragon_fly wrote: »his sorry just edited this to say that is what my partner was informing me.

yes you should haveI misclicked. Ha. I didn't mean to click at all as I wasn't going to vote! :P
BUT...depends how much you need that £10, I guess.
I'd say, stay at home...but I'm not you.0 -
Ah right sorry just re-read you are asking if you should have gone to work as per you partners opinion, well no if your child was ill then you shouldn't feel you have to.
I would also question the validity of going to work for 3 hrs for £10 (unless of course that £10 is absolutely needed).I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.0 -
no shouldn't have.that £10 is easily wasted so its not something i shall miss to much.
just need to be told i think that i am not wrong for stay at home to look after my sick child.0 -
So it's your partner who has a problem with you taking the time off work. He sounds like a right charmer.0

Well i really don't think you need us to tell you that it seems pretty obvious.
I also can't se why you would go any day for just £10.I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.0 -
no shouldn't have.I wouldn't have put an 8mth at risk of catching anything....schools have that policy for a reason and tbh I think any child that is ill should be at home with mum/dad....I would feel guilty if I went off to work if any of mine were ill.
You did the right thing. Can't think of anything funny to put here!
