Mother in law bought brand new faulty car

Hi All

MIL bought a brand new Urban Fox from Volkswagen in february 2010 - it has never been right from the day she bought it!

Initially - they told her that it was the way she was driving it!!! But when the RAC man came to collect it for the 3rd time - they agreed that it wasn't.

Basically - the car has been back and forth from the dealers for the past 5 weeks/

They initially gave her a courtesy car (after me having to call and ask and more or less beg) - they then called her last Friday and told her that tthey needed the car back for another customer - so she has been left without a courtesy car. DISGRACEFUL!

Where does she stand? Can she refuse to take the car back?

Thanks very much

It may be worth giving VW customer services a call, apart from anything else they should be able to provide a more longer term courtesy vehicle.

Think you need to go to honestjohn. You might ne getting into the territory where you can return the car.

I will try and find a link in a moment.

    Here you go:-

Well worth a read but if I were you I would also be keeping a diary of events whilst still fresh.

Whats the problem with the car?

It could be her driving style. I sold a Volvo S60 to a bloke a few years ago and for 12 months he kept bringing it back saying the steering was awful and it was all over the place.

In the end I asked him to drive me up the road and it was just the way he was driving, the pillok!

You can be just driving along and the engine cuts out - not even when I was changing gear - I was in 4th gear and just cut out.

A couple of times, the car wouldnt even start!!

get in touch with VW uk explain situation and you are not happy to drive the car in its current condition as cutting out while driving along is a safety issue.
personally i would say you have a case for replacement or refund, when i worked at vauxhall if a new car had 3 serious faults/breakdowns even if it was always the same fault then they would change the car.my mate bought a 56 plate corsa and the air con did not work was in garage 4 times and did not get repaired, the compressor kept stalling so engine almost died vaux changed for same car and took his to luton tech department.

vw should definatly be supplying a courtesy car until it is resolved one way or the other as it is most certainly a safety related fault.
