Thanks woo,
I am just going to reinstall logmein - i've used it for remote access to my pc when i'm away for months and it has only recently been funny.
i'll try removing that and see what happens
i'll remove messenger,
and also mcafee because i get an error everytime i open up outlook too because of mcafee spamkiller.
thanks for all your help.....
will let you know what happens.
If not (and i dont really know how this works...) is it possible to restore the sytem to a point sometime last week before it sarted going funny? i think i did it once on an old pc. although cant remember what i did.
now one other thing which happened the other day (and it was after this that it started to go slow) was on sat evening i ripped some music cds and the laptop just froze whilst in the middle of doing one.
i did not rip anymore after that, but in the 'my music' folder (where i was saving them) there are 14 folders called "unknown album" which were created 15/08/2006 - the first at 11:39.32am (which is when i next turned on my laptop) and the last at 11:40.53. It seems wierd that these created two days after i tried to rip the cds??
any ideas?0 -
good spot - i had that problem too; trashed mcafee in the end and resolved a lot of issues i was having.Ever stop to think and forget to start again?0

barnabee wrote:I believe you have McAfee SpamKiller installed and running? I had same problem as you after one of their upgrades. Googled around and lots of people had same problem. CPU usage on mine was well over 80% plus. Uninstalled SpamKiller element only of the 2005 Security Suite and problem was resolved straight away.
More info here but plenty more on Google
Thanks barnabee - i read your post after just writing mine regarding SpamKiller so will try that first!0 -
hmmm still slow at booting and 80-100% CPU after uninstalling spamkiller
will try the other suggestions too now0 -
Not an expert Brighton, but McAfee seems to have taken over your comp.0

Hi again,
I have tried the removal stuff (twice!) that browntoa recommended from the other thread..
Still running high (although really only at boot up and for a short while afterwards, and thereafter every now and then)
I will now try the panda software and housecall.
It does appear that it is McAfee which is causing it. Very strange as i have used it for 2 years on three computers and never had this problem before.
will let you know how i get on.....0
