Factory Reset

Can anyone please tell me what a 'Factory Reset' is?

PC World have apparently done this to a friend's PC to fix a problem on it.

I'm assuming they are talking about using System Restore in XP to take it back to it's earliest restore point.

Or are they talking about something else?

factory reset is basically putting it back to how the pc left the factory/shop.

so anything they have put on it since purchasing would have gone now.

a small partition on the hard drive stores the files. you get a floppy disc you need also, some pc,s have this set up.
