I knew it was made in other places too - but I've only ever seen meaderies at home. They're great places - loads of simple but excellent food and heaps of mead! Yum0 -
i HAVE ONE ON THE GO AT THE MOMENT from 1st steps in winemaking - the dry one - but it takes a couple of years so I can't say what it'll be like - and you don't rack till it's cleared so no previews unfortunately!!“the princess jumped from the tower & she learned that she could fly all along. she never needed those wings.”

Thanks for all the replies - you're all enticing me to drink it now! Think I'll save it til winter and if I don't like it try in a marinade!
Mine's from Lugershall. The friend who gave to me, well her dad's a beekeeper and it's made from his honey as he commercially sells it too!0 -
My dad made some mead by accident once; Left a barrelfull of honey outside and it got rained in and fermented. Was really nice til it turned to vinegar!0

MEAD!!!! YUM!!! This is as correctly pointed out a fermented honey drink. And yep that IS where the term Honeymoon comes from too
They reacon they can trace it back over 10,000 years to ancient Greece.
You can get as many different types of Mead as you can think of! Proper mead is very sweet and can be quite spicey. Roman wine or Roman Mead is a mix of fruits and mead and is much easier to drink unless you have a very sweet tooth. As a pagan Mead is important as it has lots of symbolic meanings and it's the traditional tipple at hand fastings, funerals and important celebrations.
And be warned... it can be pretty high % alcohol!
Personally I think you can drink it all year roundExperiment with it! Add juice to it in summer and fruits, add spices to it heated in winter or just enjoy it as it is
In fact I might have to go get a glass to enjoy on my way to bed now mmmmmmm

Could one of the people with a meade recipe be kind enough to post it? Pretty please?? We were given a 'fast' recipe which only took a couple of weeks to ferment and the results were nowhere near as nice as the bought stuff!!
