Netmonitor is simple to use...

As with most such monitors the totals are for the PC it is installed on only and it does not distinguish between local network transfers and internet use. Those limitations can be overcome with programs such as PRTG but that is more complex and needs a router that supports SNMP.

I made a real dogs breakfast of this post - as well as using the wrong acronym I got the program name and link wrong too - I was thinking of Netmeter and someone said there are now problems with that. Apart from that the post is perfect0 -

Netmeter : http://www.metal-machine.de/readerror/
You should check to see if your ISP's website provides one specifically for you. That's the only one that matters if you have a traffic limit. And don't forget that traffic limits usually include both uploads and downloads.0 -
There's two I've used
Networx - Looks very nice, it gives you a report of individual users and per day
Broadband Usage Monitor - A simple "tank" that fills up
They're both good and free. BUM requires registration, Networx you need to install on each PC. I'm using Networx atm, more for seeing how much data I'm actually chomping.

Just as a PS.
Personally I'd recommend Networx, it's a lot more powerful because it monitors on a per user, per usage basis.
The other one monitors everything in total. I haven't looked at features much but they will probably support network monitoring too.
Either way I recommend either of emOwner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them

I would second Networx. I had problems with NetMeter, but Networx works fine.0

I think you mean SNMP, SMTP is used for sending email. It is possible to exclude local traffic by IP address, I don't know of any Windows programs that do this.0 -
The great advantage of NetWorx is that you can set it to ignore all "local LAN" traffic from your PC or laptop, thus measuring only the traffic up and down to your ISP. It is also less flaky than NetMeter.0

100% agree, Netmeter was fine with XP, but is unreliable with 64-bit Win7.
Networx has been faultless, the "ignore local LAN" is invaluable these days with the rise in home networking.Move along, nothing to see.0 -

I'll correct the post0
