Certianly not the one I work in. That's is discriminatory.
Yes I know it is. but who do you complain too. I got in touch with DIAL and the just said it must be cutbacks. I got in touch with my local MP who said they had never heard anything like it, but didn't offer any help, I think they were just beginning the election campaign and wer too busy.
I would love to know how they could tell me this. They did a means tested assessment, including income, CT, Mortgage, savings and even wanted to know the value of my house. then told me i didn't qualify. I was VERY UPSET, i thought CAB gave free advice to anyone.0 -
i know waiting can be hard, but it isnt like its costing you anything! just be patient and any award will be backdated so youre possibly in for a windfall!0

Its usual for some CABs and much more prevelant in DIAL`s to only help customers for means tested benefits now, they are over streched and think that those on contributary based benefits have loads of cash in the bank where as in reality many are more poor than those on means tested benefits because they have to pay for everything without the cushion of extra benefits like LHA, ctb, free scripts etc.0 -

Thanks Sunnyone, I'm glad it's not just me that got refused help, as no one I have spoken to has ever heard of being refused help from CAB or DIAL.
As you say in reality, those of us who don't get any means tested benefits and are receiving HRC & HRM are usually worse off; having to pay for prescriptions, dentist, glasses, council tax etc and we are not entitled to Severe Disability Premiums.0 -
Thank you for the replies they have put my mind at ease and I will hopefully only have another few weeks to wait. Best wishes everybody and thanks for the help!

Hi, I got one of those letters on Saturday. I am waiting for a decision on DLA for my son. He has only been going to school very part time since last year and hasnt been at all for the last couple of months. I am really struggling to care for him and work at the same time. Our consultant has said that this situation is not helping him, which we are very aware of. I cant afford to give up work completely and cant make a definite decision about my job until we know whether he will get DLA.
Its worth giving them a ring. I rang up 3 weeks ago and they told me that they had all the info they needed and his case had been passed to a decision maker. This process takes about 4 weeks so we should know soon. I do understand the volume of cases they have to deal with but when its your life that is being affected is very difficult.
Fingers crossed for you, there must be lots of us in the same position.0 -

I don't really know about the decision maker taking four weeks. when I rang up, they said they were still waiting for a hospital report from one of my consultants, then just over a week later I got the brown envelope saying they had just used my evidence?
I suppose it just depends on each individual case.0 -
I guess thats very much the thing to remember with DLA isnt it? Everyones experiences are very different and cases are judged individually, which I guess is the way that it should be. Reading stories on here there does seem to be a bit of inconsistency though.
I am not going to read any more about it, it makes me too worried. Will just wait patiently for the next brown envelope!0 -
