Is anyone with payplan

New to the forum and everyone seems really helpful and supportive. Just about to start a DMP with payplan and really scared. Does anyone have any experience with them and got any advice?

Just about to finish my DMP with them. They were great at first but the service has deteriorated over the past couple of years. You need to make sure that your creditors' payment dates are well after your payment to payplan. See this recent thread:

They also try to get you to let them find you better home insurance deals, mortgage etc and can be quite hard sell about it.

Payplan are used and recommended by some users of this site, they are not however officially recommended by MSE as they are not a charity.

If you can cope with the sales patter of them trying to sell you other items then many people have been happy with them. That said in the last 6months or so there seem to have been more unhappy users of the service.

  • Thanks all new at the minute they seem really helpful. Worried that my creditors may not accept the payment offers and what happens then. Just started to panic a bit.

I think its normal to panic just before you go into a dmp, but 2months down the line most people report how pleased they are to have started tackling their debts and feel much less stressed.

It might be worth reading (or posting) on this thread which is all about people starting their dmps in 2010 and you will see the sorts of responses / issues they have had. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2388003

    Good luck

    Hi,

I did my DMP with Payplan and I have to say at the beginning they were absolutely fantastic. A named person and contact number available for any query or worry, however small. Once I went onto long term the advice and contact did tail off and I felt I had got lost somewhat in the system and ended up doing a lot of negotiating for myself with regards to interest etc. But I have to say in my last year again they were brilliant. When it came to final payments I did try to go this alone in the hope that creditors would take a full and final offer, but they played such silly games that even with a standard letter letting them know that the final payment would be given to me by someone in the form of a gift they wanted to know if the gift person could send in an SOA to negotiate them gifting a higher amount! How cheeky is that. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I contacted Payplan with notice to pay a final figure and was passed to another department in the company for this and they were absolutely fantastic. It was all paid within 24 hours of starting the ball rolling. I was sent a cheque for some overspend which I received within a week of everything and as you can see from my signature that was last year and I have never looked back. I personally, cannot thank Payplan enough for helping me get my life back. I have managed to save almost half of what my original debt was in the last 6 months after getting a promotion at work and saving hard. Still no credit for me and never will again.

    Hi Freshstart

I started my DMP with Payplan at the start of this year and I really think they have taken the fear out of the whole process for me. I agree with MAdison that your payment dates to creditors need to be well after the Payplan ones. I contacted them recently about another matter and they mentioned that my standing orders were not clearing so I had some defaults on my accounts, but no-one had contacted me to tell me.

    All sorted out now tho!

    Good luck!

    xx

We've been with PayPlan since Feb2010.
They have been really helpfull in dealing with my debts however sometimes a call to my creditors has regarding pay dates has had to be be moved. I found that all agreed the repayayments after about 8 weeks:)

No fee on a DMP if you use Payplan or any of the charities mentioned on this sticky thread - https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2077631
So that £29.50 could be going towards your debts each month and mean you would be debt free sooner. Might be worth considering a switch?
