it is a very poor rule

the doblo in this example comes in passenger version as well,so not all versions are limited
surely these vehicles should be limited for the UK market from new or at least a label on the display.
i would never know this bar seeing posts on forums nad if i hired one of these i would have no clue

I totally agree with you. The only restrictions I knew about were R plate drivers, HGVs, towing caravans. Never knew that a van could have a restriction! Makes me wonder why some many HGVs are able to overtake me in a 60 if they should be travelling at 50 but then I did hear that some cameras aren't able to differentiate between restricted vehicles thus an R plate driver could do 70 on a motorway through a fixed camera and not get fined even though they are restricted to 45.

WHERE DID I SAY I WASNT GOING TO TAKE IT ON THE CHIN? I HAVE SENT THE FORM AWAY TO TELL THEM I WAS DRIVING.

Using caps in a forum is akin to shouting, please don't.

You asked for advice as to whether you had grounds for an appeal. We, as forum users gave our advice based on experience/knowledge.

No one is disputing the fact that you are not trying to wriggle off admitting you were driving, the "take it on the chin" comments were more to the fact that you were pondering grounds for an appeal.

I hope that this clarifies any dispute in the response to your query.

    Thank you

thank you cooki2222 for your reasonable response.

    spike check your facts.

i would imagine the vast majority of drivers are unaware of this rule that on A roads where the speed limit is 60 that transit vans can only travel at 50mph. There would be very few cars or vans on the road if everyone doing 60mph were done.

Which is probably why most company & military transit type vans I drive have limiters set to 50,is'nt it.
You were speeding, end of.You broke the law,end of.

I would second it that most van drivers are unaware that their speed limits are different from that of cars. I only became aware of it after a collegue got a ticket. On speaking to a number of tradesmen, most of whom have been driving vans all of their working lives, none of them were aware of the limits. On further reading on tinternet, I discovered that the lower limits also apply to pick up, such as Nissan Navara or Toyota Hilux, vehicles many people use instead of a car.
For the record the limits for vans over 2 tonnes and non car derived vans under 2 tonnes are-
    Single carridgeway road 50 mph
    Dual carridgeway 60mph
    Motorway 70mph

I'm afraid ignorance of the law is no defence.

Worth a go but doesn't look like it's going to work :)

I do get the arguments about hitting a child but really can't imagine a situation where a child is likely to be walking along the Glenshane...

Does'nt have to be the Glenshane, could be any road, like the straight bit by the caravan parks between Millisle & Ballywalter, notorious stretch for speeders, with families out for a walk as the's no footways.

as i have said twice now, i have no problem with the fine and penalty and agree that ignorance is no defence, which is why i have sent the form away.

my question arose as i said when i was told that this was wrong and so if that had been the case then i definitely would have appealed.

at least more people are now aware of the situation.

grogdog you asked a specific question, which some people on these boards manage to somehow turn into a topic for themselves. Thankfully some kept it on topic - do what I do, ignore the others.
