Hi all,
just had to reprimand my DS as he has been bringing home toys from school in his book bag, 3 things in total now, so trying to use it to teach him the difference from right and wrong. Making him take them back to school tomorrow and hand them back to his teacher. Feel horrid as I had brought them donuts as treat for after school and my DD is eating hers and I am not letting him have any, but he needs to learn.

Awww nixi, at least like you say it is a learning curve for DS and he will hand them back tomorrow and no harm done to anyone. Not allowing him to eat his treat will stick with him for a long time, always used to with my brother when we were little. Don't feel horrible hun0

Aaw Nixi - hugs. must be hard at that age when they use the bag to bring home books from school to understand that they can't bring other exciting things too. Maybe explain that as exciting as they arethe school toys aren't fpr bringing home and it seems to be so tempting to him that he is finding it hard not to do it. so you are going to help him by checking his bag when you get to school at home time and handing anything back in then. That way you are becoming his partner in sorting out - understanding how tempting it is and helping him do something that he is not managing to do himself at the moment. It doesn't mean he gets rewarded for it but doesn't set it as a battleground either.
sometimes as well we assume we know why are kids are doing something but when we check in with them about it its something completley different to what we thought and maybe something we can help with. eg maybe he didn't get a turn with that toy today when others did, maybe someone wouldn't share with him or other things that maybe you can help him deal with in different ways.
Just a few thoughts. and he won't be the first kid to have done it.

thats a downer babymoo. no ideas what you can do except maybe increase your excess but only if you could afford to pay it.
have you tried the post office. my friend has been with them for 3 years and never found a quote to beat them yet. never looked at them myself but will shortly be looking at sorting ours out. not looked at changing for a couple of years so will be going through this process soon as well.

Thanks Babymoo! I knew one of the items (piece of lego) had come home as he told me with 'oops look what I've got in my pocket' - I ignored it but told him that he was not to do it again, but the end of last week I found a another piece I didn't recognise meant to say something but didn't get round to it, then today a big uilt piece of lego is in his book bag. So got to nip it in the bud. He was sooo upset at being told off and then me saying that I was going to tell his dad - hopefully he has learnt his lesson.Life is a work in progress0

Thanks Jo - thats a good idea. He is a really good boy overall. Because we have other stuff going on with an older 17year old in our extended family who is in very big trouble but doesn't even seem to realise he has done anything wrong I am using it as an opportunity to explain right from wrong, but I think your way would be a good way to continue for the next few days or so. Thank youLife is a work in progress0
