P4U - will they supply Monte unlocked?

Simple question really for those that may know. Planning to buy a Samsung Monte tomorrow. Will Phones4U supply it unlocked or not?
If unlocked, I'll get it on Orange. If locked it'll be Voda (They are the only ones where I can get a definitive answer on the cost to unlock)

Thanks
Alex

I don't know but, if you don't receive a definitive answer beforehand, I'd be interested to know what you find when you buy one.

I'm going into the shop rather than buying online. So if I get round to it tomorrow then I'll try to remember to post here.

(oh, btw, my reasoning for doing it this way. Sim free phone cost is £150 minimum, £160 typ. P4U sell it for £100, and voda unlock their phones for £20).

Yes, I've been thinking much the same. My one concern with this phone is the lack of an onscreen qwerty keyboard though.

The honest solution is it's an unknown.

If the phone is exclusive to one network (be iot the phone or a certain colour) then it most certainly will be locked. If it's not then it will most likely be unlocked.

However until the box comes from the back you can't tell, and generally if he box is network branded it will be locked to the network.

Aye, whilst I initially agree with you, I was in the 02 shop last weekend playing with the phones and found that the buttons on a touchscreen qwerty were too small for my fingers (and I ain't chubby). One of those things that will work for some and not for others, for me it's not a concern.

Yup, got one and it was unlocked. The guy in the shop didn't mind trying my asda sim on one he got fresh from out back. Only small quirk is the option screen when cold booting gives option for 'voda contract' and 'voda payg'.. but apart from that fine.
Also, he didn't charge me the top-up fee cos he took my gfs mobile number which is on voda!

As for the phone, so far so good...

Thanks for that, I was intending to use an Asda SIM too. I'm not sure it necessarily means it's unlocked though, since Asda uses the Vodafone network my understanding is that Asda SIMs always work on phones locked to Vodafone.

I may try an orange sim sometime, but tbh I'm not that bothered if my asda one works ok. But i thought that piggybacked operators were unique so asda shouldn't work on voda, but hey I've never tried it.

Just put my orange sim in & sent a test text, no troubles! (i didn't get the cold boot optionenioned before, this must be a quirk of voda/asda sim recogni
