Web & Walk

Hi there, this is my first post so please be kind!

I'm a freelancer, so very loathe to take time off when I could be earning money. I know, we all need to have a break, but my work has very little impact on my day and is very easy to slot in - so I'm quite keen to continue working on holiday.

The trouble is, I need a good 'web & walk' package, basically something that will give me internet access let me send audio from my laptop. I've looked into the costs with T-mobile and it's £19.99 per month for 18 months.

Does any one know if there are more competitive offers out there? As I'm not keen to have another direct debit attached to my monthly outgoings if possible.

Many thanks!

Why not just plan your trip around hotels with Wi-Fi? I recently went to Scotland and also North Yorkshire and found it relatively easy to find and book into hotels which had a FREE wi-fi connection, most running at 2mb - 8mb. The rates at these hotels were just the same as any other and I those I found were very nice and well within my budget, so no sacrifice there. I just took along my laptop and wi-fi card, and instant free internet access from my hotel room for as long as I wanted for free.

You need to seperate business with pleasure otherwise it wouldn't be a holiday!, I just connected to check my emails and answer a few customer enquiries before going out in the Morning, before the Early Evening meal and again before retiring to bed, 3 times a day is enough for anyone :o) and it still allowed me to check in with business whilst having the rest of the day to myself!. I doubt that anybody even guessed that I was away!.

Best of all it didn't cost a penny!, and you would be surprised at how many hotels and pubs are now set up for Wi-Fi. Even if you must connect during the day, there are now many motorway service areas, Fast Food Chains, Cafes and pubs with either free or pay per use Wi-Fi access all over the country. It certainly doesn't have to be a chore, or expensive to maintain internet access whilst away, its just a matter of personal discipline to maintain where the business ends, and the holiday begins!
  • Hi Chirs,

Thanks for the reply and practical thoughts there. Much appreciated. You're quite right, it is important to separate business and pleasure, I think if like you I can keep it at three email checks a day, I can still work & play.

I'll make a few calls about wi-fi - it could be the ideal solution. Thank you!
