Would never feed any of my dogs tinned dog food ,unless it was Nature diet (uber expensive though ! )
Pedigree ,Pal ,Butchers all awful IMO
Never met a reputable breeder that would feed tinned either .
If you are worried about the expense of a good dry feed ,dont worry .We feed Skinners ,its around £12 for a whole sack !! ( A highly rated dry food not like bakers or other commercial rubbish )
As a general rule of thumb ,if a supermarket sells it ,it aint much cop :/

No, it is not about the money it is because she does not like dried. As a puppy she was fed on Eukanuba and we bought the big sacks but then she suddenly refused to eat it - I thought she might be poorly or have a blockage but she was fine otherwise and after 3 days of her eating nothing (yes, nothing) she was starting to look like she was getting thinner so we thought that maybe we had better go and get her something else and changed to tinned. She turns her nose up at Pedigree Chum and Winalot too.

We tried a few more dried brands - names escape me as there have been a few now. She completely turned her nose up at Jame Wellbeloved recently and spat it out and walked away, however she likes Butchers and she eats it so if it is OK then I do not see why we should not give it.

I tried another dried food this weekend (name escapes me, Nature something) and again she did not eat it, I chucked it away in the end and gave her Butchers again. I'd prefer to give her dried but she refuses it and then she scavanges around when we are eating trying to get food from us (she does not get it) because she is so hungry and will be licking crumbs off the floor.

Have you thought about trying doggy gravy  on the dry food that you have? Something like these:

    or
    http://www.csjk9.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=96&idcategory=14

Maybe that way you could have the best of both worlds - feed a good quality dry food but the dog would like it more because of the gravy?

I don't think butchers is as bad as some of the tinned food? I have a tin of the chicken & tripe variety here that I bought to put in my dogs kong and the ingredients are:
Meat & animal derivatives (Min 51% incl tripe min 19% chicken 18%, min 15% fresh meat) minerals.......and that seems to be it? Although come to think of it :o aren't the derivatives all the really yucky leftover parts of the animal?

Good luck with it all! ;)

I have a dog like that. He was brought up on James Wellbeloved with an occasional can of Butcher's puppy food as a change. When I got him 3 months ago, he went on strike and wouldn't touch the dried food any longer. I'd prefer to feed him dried, but he doesn't want it! He has Naturediet cartons now, at least he eats it.

Be who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind.

If the dog wont eat dry, dont worry about it. A lot of people think wet is better for dogs than dry.

As I said earlier without seeing what's in it I've no idea of quality. But there are a lot of great wet foods. Most can be had for the same price as butchers. And since you feed less they actually work out cheaper in the long run.

No, it is not about the money it is because she does not like dried.

This is why no one can tell you that one dog food will be better than another. What suits their dog doesn't necessarily suit yours. I used to have a Yorkshire Terrier who hated dried food and the only food that didn't upset his stomach was Cesar and he loved it. I gave Cesar to a Cavalier I used to have and it just gave her the runs (I did introduce it slowly by the way!). My present dogs love the mix of tinned and dried, except for one who only likes the dried and will only eat a small amount of tinned with her dinner.

Its a question of finding a food that your dog likes and which suites them. As Rev says, vets will usually recommend the food that they sell. There is certainly nothing wrong with Butchers and I used to give this to my Cavalier who didn't get on with the Cesar.

If your dog gets on well with Butchers then carry on with it and I don't see why your vet will have a problem with this.
