Butchers canned dog food - good or bad??

I've tried my dog on everything and the only food that she clears the bowl on is Butchers canned food with dog mixer. I've even tried the expensive bagged ones but she does not eat them. I mentioned this to my friend yesterday and she said that it is a bad food and not to tell the vet I am giving it to her.
Can anyone tell me why? I did not want to have an argument with her over dog food but my dog will usually leave half the bowl, or more, of other food and I was sick of chucking it away as some of the bags I was spending £6 plus on to go in the bin. It was the only thing Sainsbury had that I had not tried and she loves it so I have carried on giving it to her.
Is it that bad does anyone know?

Can you post the ingrediants? I can't find them online, I'm sure someone will be able to tell you once they can see exactly what's in it.Sigless0

I know a retired vet who swears by Butchers and its what she feeds her dog on. Expensive doesn't necessarily mean better.
I had been giving my dogs James Wellbeloved and kept having trips to the vet with upset stomachs. I now give them tinned Chappie with a few Chappie biscuits and they love it and haven't had any upset stomachs since. Chappie is about £14 for a sack compared to £44 for the JWB!0 -
Both of my dogs are fed on Butcher's and do really well on it. I'll get the ingredients and post them up but the link below might help with FAQs and ingredients in the meantime.

In terms of canned dog food, I'd say it's probably the best for overall (or in my experience with my two dogs anyway).0 -
Thank you, I'll get the ingredient list later for you but I am glad I am not doing anything wrong. She was horrified that I was giving her Butchers so I tried to see if there were other bad comments elsewhere.
My dog seems to be happy on it and she looks forward to dinner time now, that was the main thing for me.0 -
As for not telling the vet, the vet will recommend whatever food their practice is being paid to sell. Vets in general don't actually know a great deal about nutrition unless they've set out to learn it. Just like a doctor doesn't have to know about human nutrition beyond the basics, not to much fat, etc.Sigless0

Perhaps she was thinking of Bakers - which is total carp!!"Men are generally more careful of the breed(ing) of their horses and dogs than of their children" - William Penn 1644-1718

my thoughts too!! The names are easily confused!0 -
Would never feed any of my dogs tinned dog food ,unless it was Nature diet (uber expensive though ! )
Pedigree ,Pal ,Butchers all awful IMO
Never met a reputable breeder that would feed tinned either .
If you are worried about the expense of a good dry feed ,dont worry .We feed Skinners ,its around £12 for a whole sack !! ( A highly rated dry food not like bakers or other commercial rubbish )
As a general rule of thumb ,if a supermarket sells it ,it aint much cop0 -

They'll probably get confused with Dentastix.
