It's worth baring in mind the refund is given on the condition the the Direct Debit Originator indemnify A&L. You can't take A&L to court over an amount you're requesting refunded by a 3rd party (the Originator).
I'm glad to hear the matter's sorted, there's nothing more frustrating than an inconsistent explanation which differs from advisor to advisor. In those instances I always just give up phoning, and put my issues in writing. It may take a little longer, but it gets the matter resolved. In your case, I would have given up with A&L and started hounding the Originator to refund.
Also, be aware, if the Originator decline to indemnify A&L after they investigate your claim, the money will be withdrawn again.Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.0
