Help please - new to ebay and BIN request

Hi, I'm certain this has been asked before, but i've done a search and can't find anything, so hoping a kind soul might help me with what
probably is a stupid question...:o

I've recently posted my first item on ebay and have had an email from someone who says they are local to me asking what i would want as a buy it now price. I have put the item up for auction and so would need to end the listing early to do this and I'm not sure if this is the right thing to do. I also have 6 people watching the item even tho there are no bids as yet. I'm thinking it's best to run it to the end???

Also, when do messages show on the bottom of the listings page? For example, i received this email in my in box, when i reply to it, will it show on the bottom of the listing? I've seen this on other pages.

thanks for any help :)

Normally people who ask for BIN are after a bargain. They normally target new ebayers. I normally turn them down and tell the person that I want to see the auction out and they are welcome to bid.

Its your choice really but remember most bids will come in the last fe minutes of an auction
  • If they are offering a good price take it! Remember eBay charge a final seling fee of 10% of the final sale price. If you end early you won't pay this fee.

Make sure you get the money from the buyer before you ship goods and if they collect make sure you have a record that they have signed.

Thanks, that's what i was thinking. I also have no idea (even after research) what i would want the BIN price to be!!! I put my item on at the lowest price I would be happy to sell it for and thought i'd keep my fingers crossed :rotfl:

Could you enlighten me on the messaging system? If i reply that i want it to run will it show at the bottom of the page? Thanks

When you answer the question it will give you the option to show the answer in your listing - it's a box you tick. You don't have to show it in the listing if you don't want it to, however the box is easy to miss as I've sometimes ended up posting answers to questions that I didn't necessarily want potential buyers to see.
  • Just think about what you think is a fair price, have a look at what others are selling for, and then go with it. I am afraid you can't really think about getting the max price and mimising your loses at the same time. You have to go one way or another, and I always think a sure sale for a fair price is better than the risk of the aution running on and you getting less than they have offered or even the item not selling.

    thanks fidget

if i decide to keep the auction running i'm thinking it might be useful to post it for others to see?

It's your decision in the end just wanted to let you know that there are times you can have a lot of watchers on an item but it still goes unsold or gets only a couple of bids. Lots of people who are selling or looking to sell the same thing will often watch yours to see how much it goes for and some people watch something and don't end up bidding. Happens on mine alot when I've got all excited that quite a few are watching only for me to be relisting it again the following week. Hope that helps.

Yes, thanks fidget - gives me something to think about. Do you think other people would be put off buying from me if i end the auction early and have other things to sell. I have no bids so far, just the watchers.

New buyers it wouldn't but if your one of the watchers it would. if your considering a BIN do a search through completed listings (go to advanced search) and find what other similar items have gone for to make sure you don't except to litlle.

Just to say the other month I had someone offer me a BIN of £20 on a bit of MAC hardware. I refused it went for £70 in the end
