If a car is MOT'd early and fails then the failure technically does over ride the previous mot...

    Where does it say that?

What does 'technically' mean? Either it does or it doesn't, surely.

    And it doesn't.

The trouble is the whole argument is a bit chicken and egg. As someone said some common sense is required on the issue.

Thanks. It's only a hunch, nobody has looked at the shoes, and yes as someone said I'm no mechanic. As far as I can tell there's nothing wrong with the actual braking performance, I thought it only affected the handbrake anyway so I've been leaving it in gear. I had a service done a couple of months ago - the works including brakes.

if the handbrake comes up high then the chances are the brake shoe adjusters are knackered (the locking tabs get broken by idiots adjusting the shoes)

So it could be that the brakes are fine in themselves but the handbrake needs adjustment. That's a simple job.

    That's a bit worrying then.

Haven't noticed anything unusual about the handbrake myself. Moved the MOT till Monday to save having to make another trip. Happy to wait for this garage as it's a cracking little indy. MOT seems a bit more expensive than places like HiQ but I can be sure this garage won't find any unnecessary work.

Please can you ask OH to post a link, so that we all may learn.

    Thanks.
