im currently with madasafish and im going over my usage but a large amount so im shopping around,
On the broadband checklist for most companies it states "BT phone line required" I currently use Sky for my phone line rental and calls so does that mean I couldnt change to a company that stipulates the above ?
thanks

If your line hasn't been LLU'd by Sky the yes you can switch. If you are already taking your broadband from MAAF then that indicates that the line is not LLU.
But if you put your phone number into the MAAF checker it will tell you if it's recognised as a BT line.No free lunch, and no free laptop

If you are on a Sky line then why aren't you on Sky BB too? Their LLU is quite good assuming you can get it - http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php0

cant get sky broadband, well i can but its £17 for 2meg speeds,
the only one showing on samknows as llu unbundled is talktalk, ive never considered them before as their reps are a PITA,

Then clearly you are not on a Sky-LLU'd exchange at that price. TT is your only 'economy' option. The base Essentials tariff gives you 40GB per month.
Otherwise you are looking at non-LLU options, the cheapest of which would be Plusnet Value at £12.99 on a Market 1 or 2 exchange-but that has a 10GB cap.No free lunch, and no free laptop

well i wouldnt bother going with talk talk, and since you have no LLU at your current address then you are using a BT wholesale line which means you should be able to anyone how much are you using and how much are you willing to pay?
having looked at the MAAF website i get this
5GB for £15 a month
20GB for £26 a month
50GB for £30 a month
good alternatives could be (these have no traffic shaping)
newnet
12GB for £18 a month
20GB for £22 a month
Zen (now)
25GB for £25 a month
from the 1st of june however they are doubling usage allowences so
10GB for £18 a month
50GB for £25 a month
idnet
24GB (4gb peak and 20gb offpeak split) for £15 a month
80GB (15gb peak and 65gb offpeak split) for £18 a month
180GB (40gb peak and 140gb offpeak split) for £25 a monthDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
thanks some great suggestions there,
My last month usage was nearly 9gb, a jump up from 1.9gb that i had been using prior to getting a new PC
I currently pay £7.59 ish for MAAF but as its capped at 5GB im going to go over. (2 days in and ive used 1.6gb already-somehow)
Ive priced plusnet up on the 10gb value pricing and taking into account cashback from quidco and an offer of 1st 4 months free its equating to £8.66 per month, cant see anyone getting anywhere near that ???Bow Ties ARE cool "Just because you are offended, doesnt mean you are right" Ricky Gervais

Correct, but you will get clobbered if you run over the 10GB limit, as I think they've just put the excess up to £5 per GB?
Otherwise Plusnet Value is a great deal for the money. No free lunch, and no free laptop

price wise no plusnet are one of the best
service wise, well yes you can get better but you have to pay for it, the ones suggested above all have no form of traffic shaping on their networks so you can 'do what you want'
however Plusnet do have active traffic managment, however big well done to them as they are probably the best ISP for being clear with the term and condidtions of their traffic management,
so all i would suggest is to check the traffic management information about Plusnet before you go to them just to make sure its suitableDrop a brand challenge

It's £5 per 5GB whereas it used to be £1 for 1GB. Not good if you go over by a small amount.Correct, but you will get clobbered if you run over the 10GB limit, as I think they've just put the excess up to £5 per GB?

Edit: and MAAF, which I'm on, is £2 per 1GB and I keep going over - looking probably to switch to O2 LLU.2kWp Solar PV - 10*200W Kioto, SMA Sunny Boy 2000HF, SSE facing, some shading in winter, 37° pitch, installed Jun-2011, inverter replaced Sep-2017 AND Feb-2022.0
