Wish used cars were still this cheap, I can't find anything with more than 6 months test on it for less than £500.

Lol I-phone player. Also it says it has a drivers airbag but it doesn't. Innocent error I imagine.

Ah back in the day when the VW Golf did actually live up to it's name.

Yes, I had one I used to "putter" about in.

Best thing about cheap bangers is you can park/dump them any where with no worries of damage. :p

    Not a Mk2 Golf you can't.

I bought one of those a few years back, F reg 1.8 automatic, lovely car, great to drive. That 1.8 engine is pretty damn nippy in such a small car. Cost me £250

Had to leave it outside my GFs work on xmas eve because a tyre came off the rim and the spare was unusable, came back to get it on boxing day and it was gone, someone thought it was worth towing away.

Looking on the Golf forums it seems the recommended first mod for a Mk2 is armour guard door plates for the locks.

    I'll bear that in mind!

My friend bought a mk II Golf off a mate for £30 a few years ago. It's an F reg with huge mileage but it's still running fine, passes the MOT every year with no work and looks quite cool in a retro 80s sort of way :D Now that's a bargain.

Someone broke into it a couple of months ago. A neighbour saw the thieves and called the police, who happened to have a car already round the corner and caught the thieves immediately. Turns out they broke into the car to steal a tape measure they saw sitting on the dash

You can, just have to do a bit of looking.

My Persona had 38,000 on the clock when I bought it for £400.

Three years later with 100,000 was sold (with a head gasket threatening to blow- again) for £450.

Never once paid for servicing either! Mech at the time did it free- had a running joke over how long it would last. He regretted offering free service/labour etc..... :)

    Does that count?
