Twice now i have had excellent success by posting a wanted message on freecycle. The first time i got about 50 large boxes from a proper removal firm for free off a lady who had just moved - she must have paid a fortune!
Also, try to co-op or b&q or any other shop.Officially BR at 2.10pm on 6th May 2009, ED 7th December 2009

Not sure if this is the right board to ask but we've starting to box up things due to moving home, I used to just pop along to Tesco and grab a lod of cardboard boxes left at the end of the tills but they don't do it anymore.
I don't fancy paying £3 a time in Staples, can anyone recommend shops that still leave them out? I'm in Manchester if anyone can name specifics!
Thanks0 -

If you go to B&Q and go near the goods in, ask someone round there and they should be a ble to get you a few!0

Excellent, thanks. There's one on the way home so will be worth a shot.

Our local sommerfield were happy for us to raid their carboard storage bins although everything was flat packed by them so you had to sort through it to get suitable boxes. Have you actually asked in your Tesco if they could give you some as there will be a huge amount coming in with deliveries.
Also try any local shops as most deliveries still come in cardboard boxes0 -
Try Costco if you are a member, or Lidls, but I know what you mean. Try freecycle.Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
The trouble is most supermarkets break boxes up as soon as they empty them and then they get sent off for recylcing.
If you get to Tesco at the right time, thought, it's still possible. We only recently moved and what I did was go in very late at night, when they were actually shelf stacking, and ask them for the boxes literally as they were emptying them! The other thing was to hover around the green grocery aisle when they were stocking up and getting the fruit boxes - I can personally recommend the boxes bananas come in - very sturdy!.
Also, I got rid of my boxes on Freecycle once I'd emptied them - it might be worth asking on there?
(ETA - oops, sorry, I see esmf73 has already suggested this.)
Good luck0 -
Do you have a recycling centre for the public anywhere near you? Does it have a cardboard compacter?
See if the staff at the site would mind if you stood next to the compacter for an hour or so and relieved people of the boxes they are about to recycle......?
A4 paper boxes from stationery suppliers are good for small items.0
