Facebook! I am on facebook and changed my status to "has anyone got any cardboard boxes" and I was inundated from friends and had to turn some offers down.

As others have mentioned, your local supermarket. I work in the Co Op, and we nearly always have cages of empty boxes stacked in the warehouse.

Local supermarket or shop is a good place to start. Also if you have a restraunt/cafe/pub nearby theboxes chips, onion rings, breaded mushrooms, scampi come in are good.

If you have a warehouse or distribution centre near you- call and ask. I work in one and we have very sturdy boxes that will hold up to 25 kilos, they all get recycled in the end any way, so would be able to pick them up for free!

The fruit boxes used by all supermarkets are great for stacking, can`t fill them with too much heavy stuff, but for books, and stuff they`re ideal. Stack & unpack at your leisure, and they`re corrugated cardboard so can go in the`green` bin. Lidl and Aldi nearly always have them if you ask.

These melon / tomato type boxes are fab for paperbacks, CD's and DVDs or videos, just the right size and rigid corners.

Tesco delivery crates are good too, they stack on the little rail across them so you can put breakables in them ;) They are used as fruit crates in most supermarkets so you can see how they stack & sit on top of each other.

DD worked for a chemical company and brought some of their boxes home to pack stuff in when she moved ( she did ask her employers if she could) .
Several of the boxes were printed with a large skull and crossbones and were marked "hazardous substance"-goodness knows what the neighbours thought.

It might be worth asking your local charity shop if they have boxes. I work in one and people often bring donations in cardboard boxes. We can't recycle them so have to flatten them and put them in the dustbin.

I gave my old ones away on freecycle so I would put a request in there. People are usually pretty accomodating

The boxes at Primark are absolutely fantastic - we are currently packing everything up and they always have loads of flatpacked boxes that the staff in our local store are very happy for us to take (less work for them to stack them all up to be recycled I suppose). They're always different sizes and very durable. When we've used them, we're going to re-flatpack and stick them on Freecycle. Maybe you should do the same when you've had your boxes? :)

When i was at the dump getting rid of small bits of cardboard i saw loads of flat packed moving boxes dragged them out of the huge bin and took them home perfect :) so keep an eye on your cardboard recycling center
