Child Tax credits and DLA

I have recently been awarded DLA for my 7 year old son, middle rate care component and lower rate mobility, I have put in my claim for carers allowance then I discovered I may be entitled to more child tax credits, however looking on their website it asks if I am recieving the higher rate care for the child, does this mean I am entited to no more?

If your child receives DLA, you are entitled to the disability premium on CTC.

    Hi,

I only got middle rate for my son and still got the disability premium in the tax credits.

Also if you are on housing benefit let them know as you will also get a disability premium for that as well.

I can't think of anything else but if I do, I'll drop a post.

I've just done my renewal as my son is 3 this year - fingers crossed.

    Good luck with it all.

The disabled child element is an extra £2,715 for this tax year. You get this if you get any element of DLA for your child.

The severely disabled child element is the £3, 810 for this tax year. You get this if you get the highest rate care component.

So many phone calls to make!

I am already in receipt of full housing benefit and council tax as I get Income Support for myself, it's been a slow and exhausting process getting DLA for my son and it's like a huge weight has lifted since being awarded it, it's good to see I am entitled to much more than I thought.

    Hi .

I also receive middle rate care Dla for my daughter.

You will be entitled to the disability premium of tax credits. It works out at around £2670 extra per year . This amount can be back dated from you first received the DLA award , the tax credit office will TRY to tell you that it can only be backdated 91 days but this is untrue . Appeal against their decision and you WILL get it back dated from the first day of the DLA award.

Also , you say that you have applied for carers allowance , please note that carers allowance is counted as an income when you are calculating for your tax credits. I.E YOU MUST TELL TAX CREDITS THAT YOU ARE IN RECEIPT OF CARERS ALLOWANCE.

    HTH
