The only thing I have ever found to work is drinking lots and lots of water.

  • I used to suffer regularly from Thrush. I tried tee tree oil impregnated tampons and these did seem to work ( I bought them from a health shop but there are instructions online on how to make your own - you don't put neat oil directly inside you!). I also took acidophilus supplements. The yogurt application is very soothing if a bit messy. Good luck - it can make you feel really run down and miserable.

I used to have recurring thrush and tried all the usual remedies.
Eventually I mentioned it to my GP who prescribed antibiotics for my husband.
The doctor said it was a waste of time to treat only me if he remained untreated and kept re-infecting me.
    It worked.

Oh thrush is awful. First time I got it, it was from durex lube. I didn't even know what was wrong with me, except that I wanted to rip my bits off. I took the tablet and used the cream and it sorted it. Next time was antibiotics that set it off, and the tablet sorted it but you need the cream to relieve the symptoms. It's awful.

Costs a fortune for cannestan aswell  Hope you manage to get rid of it soon!

If you can catch it early enough, you can try a tea-tree bath (don't put it on neat, it stings like BU663RY!) along with eating natural yoghurt or taking acidophilus supplements. I would be wary of putting the yoghurt anywhere other than my mouth though, I don't want a yoghurt culture growing there too fighting with the thrush bugs!

If the creams and tablet haven't quite gotten rid of it after a while, then the above often helps too.
    Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!

This reply is a bit late so you're probably already better now! I have had this a few times over the years varying in severity, last time I went to the docs because it kept coming back she said that I probably wasn't getting rid of it properly each time. Basically the treatment can reduce the level of bacteria so you feel better for a while but it doesn't solve the problem completely so it comes back as soon as you get some irritation, eat too much sugar etc etc. She prescribed 4 treatments of the internal cream to take 1 a week for 4 weeks and it worked. One prescription charge is much cheaper than buying the stuff at £8 ish per box!

Anyway it's worth a try if your still suffering. She said if you have it for a while you actually get used to the low-level symptoms so if your not feeling entirely back to normal treat it again!

Havent had this for a while now but I used to get it regularly! I had used Canesten so much I'd actually become allergic to it - all the same symptoms so very confusing! I found I had to take 2 Diflucan tablets (not at the same time if I remember rightly) because one just didn't quite get rid of it. I used to get them on prescription two at a time once I persuaded the GP that that was the only thing that worked! HTH

    Hi there,

Its (hopefully!) too late for the OP now, so just a note for anyone searching on this:

TESCO sells the "Once" type tablets for much less than the branded version. Same strength and everything. You can also buy non-branded one's from your local chemist. I keep one in the house and always take it on holiday with me, because you never know when you'll get caught out!

If the first tablet doesn't work you can take a second one to completely clear it after 5-7 days (read the instruction leaflet).

Having had several rounds of the cyctitis - antibiotics - thrush cycle I completely knocked all kinds of bath additive on the head. All I'll use in the bath water now is pure lavender oil. I also only use Simple soap, anything with fragrances really upsets things!
