I tried the 3.5 jack to the twin into the connect socket red/white = did not work just gave feedback noise so stuck with the ear socket looks

You've now got me almost as confused as you seem to be.

As you've discovered, it's probably not a wise move to just plug something into something else without knowing what each of them are ....

I have the same unit and same issue. The basic problem is the only line into the Multimedia system is earphone socket. I am no expert but I have ordered one of these 'AV Link SCART adaptor, 3.5mm socket audio out', to see if this will help. Worth a try and when it arrives I will report back. As OP says the system works fine but it could be a bit better.

Why is the single 3.5mm line-in a limitation?

All this speaker system is expecting to be fed with is a fixed-level line source, via a lead that has a 3.5mm jack at the end that meets the speaker system. What's available at the other end of the lead has nothing to do with this speaker system and more to do with the user's original choice of TV or other audio source. Perhaps if those who have posted already would post the model number and make of TV they're trying to match the speaker system up with, I/we could be more help.....

If anyone here is feeding a headphone output from their TV to this unit, all that's giving you is two volume controls - one in the TV, one in this speaker system.

It also adds distortion to the signal

Personally, I wouldnt touch it with a bargepole

Thanks Googler, Toshiba Regza 37X33030D is my TV. I am probably being a bit dim but it looks like the only connect to the TV is via the line in jack on the back of the subwoofer? Is this the limiting factor? But any help is much appreciated.

It's a limitation in that this is the only way that you connect the speaker system to other equipment - but that's the way it was designed.

The M&S page suggests it's for use with mp3 players and other sources, so the 3.5mm jack seems reasonable. You just need to establish what's best to feed it from at the other end of the jack lead.

I can't find any online references to the socketry on your TV. What sockets do you have on the back, front and side?

Are the red/white phonos on the TV definitely audio OUTPUTS?

If this isn't clear on the TV, what does the instruction manual say?
