    Hi

Just caught up with this thread. Am so glad your dog is OK.

As other people have commented, Springer Spaniels are prone to picking up thorns, grass seeds etc whilst they are running thru fields, hedgerow etc at supersonic speed !!

We too had experience of this a few years back. Our young Springer all of a sudden developed a lump in his neck the size of a golf ball which was treated with antibiotics by the vet to no avail. It eventually got to the size of a tennis ball :(:( and the vet decided he had to reluctantly operate as he was mystified as to what it could be. It turned out to be a grass seed which had been in his neck for goodness knows how long :eek: as it was during the winter.

He never had another grass seed during his life and lived to 15 years old.

Thanks Rosie 75 and maggie j.
Blick is on the way to the vet now for his follow up.
maggiej, we walk our dogs on the Pennines most days so a grass seed is a distinct possibility. Springer spaniels are so lively. We also have a labrador who strolls along dreaming of food whereas our spaniel is never still.

    :hello: Turbo,

Glad all is well with your springer spaniel.I walk dogs for Animals in Distress and I had the opportunity to walk a collie/Springer,She was called Rosie and she was ever so loyal to me and so loving. She has now been rehomed by a couple but I have the pictures of Rosie as a reminder as I had really grown attached to her and she was to me as she was ever so good.I cried when I heard she had a new home but I am happy for her now and dont cry as much.I have a laminated photo of her in my lounge of her laughing and that makes me smile when I look up at it :)

Thanks Tulip, I'm ashamed to admit I have never heard of Animals in Distress. I will do a search. What a worthwhile thing to do. It's so easy to become quickly attached to dogs. I work from home so our two dogs are my constant companions. Our spaniel is very intelligent and seems to know what we are going to do before we do it.
