I'm off work today so I'm hoping to get lots of useful things done starting with putting together a bookcase I've bought off ebay (7 squid & exactly the right size to fit in agap in the living room)

Aaargh! Forgot to take the skirting board into account. Now got a new bookcase jammed 6 inches above the floor. Will pause for tea while I think what to do.

This thread has inspired me to start my own diary and also to sort the house out! It's not in a bad way just needs keeping on top of. Gonna make out my own list and post to diary.

    Cheers

I know this is no help, but that really made me chuckle! Just the kind of thing I'd do. Hope you find a solution (and if not, tea is always a good substitute for actually solving a problem).

    Hi Memorygirl,

Have been reading up about Montessori methods. I love the idea of 'useful' work. Did you attend a Montessori school? Just wondering how you came to find such a wonderful place.

I have discovered just this morning that we have much upheaval coming at work. I'm trying to put a positive spin on it and look at it as an opportunity to change how I do things. There is some sadness with it though, as it may mean less staff here. For me it could be good, but I don't like looking at it that way when other people may lose jobs.

Going to have a good chat with DH tonight, he can always get me excited about new things, and come up with ways to make the less nice things easier to handle. The Universe must have sent him to me. Glad you've got your order in for one too, MG.

Hope everyone else is having a good day. The house is coming along even better - since my mighty decluttering has revealed so many unfinished jobs I spent last night glossing paintwork. I was surprised how quickly I managed it when I just got on with it instead of messing about. Now I'm trying to resist the urge to put things back on windowsills - I'm now alergic to untidiness but I don't want everything to stick to tacky paint!

I can think of two solutions for the skirting board. Either take the skirting board off, or get a bit of wood the same colour as the bookcase and put it across the gap at the bottom like a kick board to disguise the gap.

Wet gloss - we decorated the littlest bedroom here in a hurry before christmas last year. Some boxes got stood back on the window sill after it had been glossed, and the box print is all over the sill so it needs redoing. When is another matter, but another thing to add to the list.

Another day of not being amazingly productive, but i posted an amazon sale, took the kids to feed the ducks and got a few bits at Tesco. They dragged me out on their trampoline just now so i am recovering a bit.

    Love the kickboard idea!

That's what I'm worried about with the gloss, thanks for backing me up! DH said to put things back on it after 24 hours, I'm determined to make it a full three days.

I'm not doing it again - I don't mind painting, I just hate cleaning the brush!

Sometimes life has its ups & downs.
Spent some time with power file & saw cutting through the skirting board, balanced the bookcase on the two volume boxed set of the Complete Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, whilst I removed the piece of skirting board & et voila the bookcase was in, same height as the other one, looked great!
Then in my eagerness to fill it I swung round and smacked my head on the edge of the tv. I'm now walking around with huge bruise & bundle of witch hazel soaked cotton wool on the side of my head.

Might be safest to wait a while before I go on the porch roof & look at replacing the little cracked window

24 hours should be okay. What does it recommend on the tin? (This is where we women score over men -we read instructions)

OK seven minutes to 5pm - But I've truly had enough writing for the day.

Off to read what you busy lot have been up to whilst I rootle around and pull the stuff out for our tea.

DS1 wants an early night - Yipee!!! so maybe a few more 15 minute runarounds and we will be ready for the weekend.

Amazon aythey have despatched DS1's birthday present - Yipee!!! So hopefully that and my power lead should be winging its way northwards.
