    Morning All,

MG - I'm a bit slow off the Mark re your query about support for PHD students. I have a few suggestions ( i should explain that I will shortly be stating a new job which will involve supporting research students).

    1) I think there is a need for PHD students to see themselves as early career researchers so the research skills that they develop are skills for their futures.
    2) Networking - this is a really important skill ESP. When students are involved in more individual research where there isn't a natural research group or support network.
    3) Most Universities have Graduate Schools - these are focussed on research students and often develop and deliver training programmes for research students. If you are going to focus on PHD students as part of your strategy then it may be more beneficial to include these departments in your contact list (wrote lust first which may be quite apt! Tee hee!).

As well as research students there are a couple of other ideas that I have had as I read your diary. Another useful area of contact would be Disability Services in Universities - these provide specialised training for students with various learning disabilities. A study skills training programme would benefit many students and some students get funding to get the support they need.

Another area of focus in Universities might be Study Skills departments. Many unis now have a support service for all
students to access to be able to improve thier learning. As you research unis on their websites have a look at the support for students section of the website to see how these services are delivered in each
uni as it differs at each!

    I hope that this helps!

Hi Ziggles. I fully understand where you are coming from. I too am a non professional and have no thoughts into starting a business, yet I feel a strange optimism about my life 'changing'.
Possibly it is from all the positivity and support this thread gives out. There certainly is an energy that these ladies have that is infectious, and I like it.
I made some positive decisions in the last couple of weeks that before I felt were unattainable but MG and her posse have shown that just one little step from the safe path could become a whole new and better way of living, instead of just being.

MG- :j:j:j Well done on your meeting with Mr Big. You deserve it.
Hi to everyone else, hope everybody is getting positive things in their lives. :)

i love that everybody is taking from this exactly what they need when they need it. your right its not all about building a business (that just happens to be where i am at the moment) but about stepping off a well trodden path into somewhere a little more stimulating (and sometimes scary)

Finally, this whole journey is bound to be "full on" for you MG - that will include lots of emotions, excitement, terror, frustration, days of amazing self belief, days of wondering "why me?" etc etc etc. So, my only other tip for the day would be to either learn some grounding techniques, or to re-visit some that you may have learned before, that only take you a minute or so to bring yourself into balance a few times a day, so that you don't suffer from the "extremes" of the emotional spectrum that this sort of challenge is bound to present you with.

    Look after yourself. Enjoy :D

Linkedin is on my radar - but i need a linkedin mentor to help me draft a page and explain the process etc.

i know - technophobe - but i am willing to learn if someone will show me.

totally get the grounding - last nights coaching call was in realtion to just that. i have plunked on Jack blacks mindstore programme because is resonates with me -also because i actually have the cassettes (yes - i don't even have his stuff on cd although i would love to one day)

used it last night and this morning - so when my coach this morning was talking about target markets, call lists and prospect tracking:eek: and i knew he was going to come out with the immortal words "cold calling" i reamined cool, calm, collected and caffeine free :rotfl:

Of course he doesn't realise that we have a secret weapon in the MG matrix and cold calling is only one method of us reaching our dream clients.

As i was on the phone, a courier arrived (yup at 7 am) with, well what i can only describe as "an office in a bag". a messanger sized bag with an a4 folder inside with loads of inserts, some notepads, a yellow financial analysis pad!!!. In the other side is a 6 part filing system, a place to put my mind mapping pens and a hardbound journal - with a sticker that says "put diary here"

this is the bag that has now got to contain my business stuff that i will need on a day-to-day basis - so that if i am away travelling i will still have access to all the numbers and stuff i will need.

i do have a laptop - but its not always convenient to stop and fire that up when you need something quickly is it?

So todays challenge is to create an appropriate form in excel and to start populating the call lists for next week , and the week after and the week after...............

So first thing - find the details of people who work in universities with phd students.

second thing - create personalised email offering that rings their bells.

Third thing - get on the phone and build a relationship with these people so see how i can help them make their life easier in some way - repeat until the product is perefctly positioned for them to say yes!!!

i hope every call ends up with a 1, 2, 3 system because i feel like it so simple when in little chunks.

I am new to linkedin too - started it as a result of Mr Big's "build a database of 250 people" challenge.....but I am determined to learn how to get the most out of it over the weekend, and will then pass on what I know if no one else has done so in the meantime!

    Good Morning

Your going to have a busy day today then MG :) Loving it :).

Well Today I'm going to be busy too :) I've cleaned kitchen washed floor and emptied the dishwasher.

just had breakkie, and a coffee

Next step is to tidy living room throws on settees etc, sweep and wash floors (much quicker to clean now its not cluttered.)

    get dressed and make bed.

Then plonk myself at the dining room table to do more sorting till the post comes, make earrings, then I have to go and get a prescription for my mum and post parcels for her and post earrings :).

right see you all later :)
