    Hats off to ClootiesMum

By popular request of both boys we had HM Norwegian waffles and Redcurrant syrup (homemade again from fruit donated by my lovely neightbours downstairs).

Both boys (actually all three boys if you count my houseguest) had a couple of waffles and syrup for breakfast. With a pot of proper coffee for the adults (mum donated half a bag of beans through the week as she doesn't have a grinder)

Votes on the Doors - Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm 10 out of 10:j:j

    RECIPE

    1 EGG
    10g white sugar
20g melted shortening (trex, Lard or marg)
205ml milk (made from powdered is fine)
    1/2 tsp salt
    95g plain flour
    1/2 tsp baking powder

    Pre heat your waffle iron.

Beat the egg and sugar in a bowl with an electric whick until light and fluffy and beginning to change colour to a paler yellow.

Melt the shortening in a jug (I use the microwave) and pour in the milk and whisk to combine. Beat the egg mix and milk together.

Mix the rest of the ingredients in to he wet mix a bit at a time until you have a thin batter (about the consistency of single cream)

Cook the waffles in the iron until the steam stops coming out (or according to the instructions of your waffle maker).

Serve 2 per person with jam, jellies, syrup, honey, sliced banana or whatever you fancy.

I only own a waffle iron because a local charity shop was selling one just after Christmas for £3.00 - but I think that LIDL do them for about £9 or so.

Or you could just always make a pancake mix instead I suppose.

Righto!! Some more cleaning to do this morning:mad:- just the standard laundry turnaround, bathroom clean and hoover before we disappear into the office to begin putting together our plan for the next 10 days writing.

Had a request from the boys to make "CAKE!!! CAKE!!! CAKE!!!" :jso I may take 3 more of Clooties Eggs and make a cake inthe afternoon - I have a reduced pot of double cream and raspberries in the freezer - so I may even make is "CHOCOLATE CAKE!!"

Will need to invite some other peeps around to eat it though - as Cake and Slimming World is not such a good combination - especially as I woud be expected to finish it off - Well MDAM doesn't advocate waste does it ???:rotfl:

    See you all later

    Have a Frugal Sunday

Hi! Just wanted to say I've really enjoyed reading your thread and all the little ideas.

I'm another who loves coke as a treat to myself and am terrible for doing it at the swimming pool. I know its hot in there and a bottle costs £1 but I never think to take a drink with me but having read about your savings in just that one area, I need to be more organised.

Love the sofa story too. I another one who thinks you get back what thoughts you put out, on Friday I got myself in a real tizz about money but having put a positive spin on it, things are looking better and I 'found' more money to play with. Plus you've inspired me to have a go at cleaning my sofa and trying a cover in the washing machine.

    xx

Love your sofa result!! :T I have been keeping my eyes open for things that may suit my wishes, but because of the sheer size I require, not an awful lot of those around!!! Will keep looking though....:D

Well I knew today wouldn't be a NSD as I had to go to Tesco's to get Organic Milk, sugar and biscuits for the training thats running at school this week. It's OK because I getthe money back from Petty Cash

    I was pretty restrained however;

6 yogurts for the baby 20p
    Wholemeal FLour 1.5kg 95p
    Head of Celery 19p

    24 pack of crisps 1.85

Total of £3.19 to add onto the total. Pretty good I though.:D

The baby yogs are the DS favourite and much cheaper than LIDL. The Flour is to enable me to make crispbreads and Krisprolls and because its mixed with Rye flour and Granary flour is should go a long long way.

The celery - well it was 19p - LOL. :DWe came home, made 6 french bread rolls and cream of celery soup for lunch - all Home made of course.

Soup cost 39p for 24 portions and the rolls were 4p each. So lunch was had for about 14p per person. And it tasted lovely and spring like too.:T

Tea tonight is mince (from freezer) dumplings, steamed cabbage and creamed potatoes. Stick to your ribs stuff for Sunday tea.

This diary seems to be a lot about food - I do do other things honest. This morning my neighbour gave me a table to go with a chair we found in a sckip to refurbish for the baby's room. The table is a tiny gate-leg table with a real and very red formica top. Brilliant for his red, white and blue theme.

I must figure out how to put up pictures so that I can show you.

Hope youall had a great weekend

    Hi MG,

Brilliant diary and so determined, I have to say I love the recipes. Sounds like you have some really nice wholesome homemade food on the go. Hope you don't think I'm being cheeky but do you have a recipe for the crispbreads and Krisprolls?

Best wishes for a super DFW journey.

    Hi Thrifty Fifty

I will post the recipe for the crispbreads later on when I get back from the school run - Monday mornings eh!!

My experiment with the Krisprolls is beginning today - so fingers crossed by tea-time we might have a workable recipe.

Been looking at my bread recipes - I've got some in there that I used to love but have got out of the habit of making - I'm sure the boys would love to try sourdough, or pumpernickel or Danish Rye as a change.

This week I am standng at my computer in the kitchen - half keeping an eye on the baby, half writing as fast as I can to finish a training programme I wrote with a Memory Colleague. A very different style of writing from the easy chat we have here though - :o

He's here until the 25th and by then I want to have a plan of stuff that needs doing before I can get back to work in the New year.

I've actually got that "First Day at School Feeling" - but it should hopefully be a NSD.

Plan for today - do some more sewing up of the baby jersey.
Erm!! Write, write and oh yes knuckle down and write :rotfl:

    Later guys

PS Sorry - so rude, Welcome thrifty fifty - "lang may yer lum reek" (long may you have a fire on your hearth and smoke in your chimney = prosperity)

    hi mg

also enjoying your diary as i often have to be innovative on the culinary front. nearest shops are 8 miles away. i like to keep an emergency pack of wraps in the store cupboard for quick snacks. yesterday the filling was tuna chopped tomato and celery (ha mine was 10p) mixed with some homemade salad dressing. add some lettuce from greenhouse = speedy lunchtime snack for four.
Teamwork means.......never having to take all the blame yourself ;)

Ooh - jealous of the cheap celery. It is lovely this time of year. Tastes fresh n juicy.

The kids love wraps as well - although more often than not its a lunch for when I've run aut of bread. I rustle up omlette sized crepe pancakes and they are just the right size for little fingers to fill themselves.

Hopefully now the better weather is starting to come in we will have more opportunity to eat these snacky lunches in the garden or in the park in glorious - and free - sunshine.

Oops forgot the cripbread recipe yesterday - off to get it now

PS yesterday was a NSD. Today I need to get milk and natural yogurt.
