It does say in the book that you get with your blue badge that you can only park in a disabled space with your badge if you're getting out of the car.
    .

You are perpetuating a very common misapprehension.

I've got better things to do with my energy than to trot around harassing other people displaying blue badges. It's got s*d all to do with me what or who has the medical condition as I don't have the right to question them any more than they have the right to challenge me about my medical condition.

Its not harrasing people displaying blue badges if they are using them correctly .
If you had a disabled child and someone was in the last space displaying a badge and just sitting there waiting for their companiion to come out from doing the shopping and your disabled child desperately needed the loo, wouldnt you be hopping mad and say something.

If they are going to do this they might as well go into a 'normal' space.

Its not a case of self appointed guardians.
In my opinion if someone challenges someone who is not entitled to be
parked (ie able bodied) in a disabled bay they are looking out for those people who are entitled to one. ie disabled.

There are many people out there who are entitled to a BB; but have invisible disabilities.
Amazing you got a badge tbh ,if you said you walked around all the shops you went to ?

Mobility is more than about walking:
    - Blind people are able to walk - they're entitled to a blue badge
    - People with severe mental impairment (SMI) and behaviour problems are able to walk - they're entitled to a blue badge

When I say "can walk", I do mean "physically able to put one foot in front of the other".

I have a blue badge. Some days I can't get out of bed, some days I can drive but have real difficulty walking, and some days I can get around reasonably well. On those days I don't take up a disabled space, simply because I know how much I really need that space when my mobility is really bad.

Whatever the legal position might be, I would never allow my blue badge to be used to park in a disabled space if I was staying in the car while my able bodied companion (who presumably is perfectly capable of walking across the car park) left me to do some errands.

    Just my thoughts.
I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.

Cor ,you have a real habit of selecting bits of people posts to quote whilst ignoring the rest of the post dont you ?
The rest of my post said that I was surprised as my mum( with severe mental impairment as well as physical difficulties) was turned down because she could shuffle a few meters whilst holding on to me !!!!

But I would be harassing them until they provided me with acceptable proof of their right to use the space, wouldn't I?

And, no, being disabled myself, I would just get on with getting to the loo from the next nearest space, rather than interrogate the person in the car as to the nature and extent of their medical condition and that of their companion.

It is not my business what is wrong with them - one of my exes' father has prostrate cancer, and is very embarrassed about it. He looks fine - other than the fact that the cancer is spreading and is resistant to all treatments that have been tried. If someone were to question him about why he is in the car whilst his wife is in the shop, he would be mortified to explain that he was going to go in the shop with her but the cancer has made his wotsits hurt too much today to join her as he intended.

there are way too many opinionated doogooders on here, the rules say that the holder can park in certain circumstances, it says nothing about who is in the car or getting in and out, i use mine to park in disabled bays, double yellows etc. so long as i am in the car or being dropped off/picked up i am not breaking any laws, i wish all the non blue badge holders would get a life and go find somebody else to judge, many people are using there badges illegally, i am not, if you ask me to see my badge or check it out and you are not a police officer or traffic warden expect to get told where to go, do people realy think that i want to be disabled and suffer crippling acute pain? i often get dirty looks from old people in supermarkets (where the laws dont even apply) as i drive a big shiny gas guzzling 4x4, i have a beautiful young wife and choose not to use crutches, so they see me climb out and instantly assume that i am not entitled, i have on more than one occasion reported people whom i know are using a relatives badge to park illegaly outside the office for the day, the traffic wardens i told were not at all interested, nor were the parking shop people in watford, so i say go get a life to all teh judgemental eejits on here, i dont make the rules, and your opinion of the moral standing of my useage of it is like snot, EVERYONE has some!!

The OP also says they have MS and refers to their walking ability. Not to being blind or severely mentally impaired.

Where does it say this? I've just gone to check my booklet and can't find any mention of it.
