Unwanted ph calls ?

I'm ex-directory but just lately keep getting unwanted calls from companies.

I don't wait to hear what they're trying to sell me, just ask where they have got my number from. They always say automated dialing, does this mean I have to also register with the TPS to stop them?

I was told by someone that when they are dialing automatically that they dial out a few at a time so its the first one to answer that gets the call. The answer is to let your phone ring four times at least before answering then hopefully someone else will have got that particular call.

No harm in registering with the TPS and adding in mobile phone numbers too to counteract spam sms!

Edilass you're a star, thanks for the speedy reply. :D

It's not a major problem in the grand scheme of things, it just pecks my head.

I'll contact TPS and try to refrain from answering the ph until after 4 rings..

Do you use Just-Dial or any of its affiliates? Use 141...

Read the T&C - number will be sold to telemarketers

    What's 141?

dial 141 from BT before any number to withhold your number for that call

of course if you use different providers that need to recognise your number eg 18866, 1899 you can't 141, but I don't think they do that

    Thank's for your reply :)

I can't find anything on the Just dial saver site about selling numbers..

The only other companies we use are Planet talk (think it's now called Primus) and BT for the line rental

I don't need to dial 141, my number is automatically witheld (long story after a few problems years ago)
