£26 to disconnect Orange Broadband

Hi,
I'm trying to disconnect my Orange broadband as I am moving abroad. When I phoned up I was told there was a £26 fee to disconnect. When I said I was unhappy about this I was told that its a standard fee BT applies (it is a BT phone line) to disconnect broadband and all suppliers charge it. Does anyone know if this is true?

Yes, this is a universal charge that every supplier has to stop a connection. If you were transferring from one ADSL provider to another provider there would be no disconnection charge (and the transfer/connection charge is usually absorbed in the new contract). But as this is not the case there is a fee.0

If you terminate ADSL services rather than migrate using a MAC then BT OpenReach charge the ISP something in the region of £25. I can't say for certain that all ISPs pass that on to the customer but certainly BT Retail do because we see constant complaints about it.
It may be worth checking the T&C but the odds are that it is in there and they sneakily notified you of the change in one of those boring emails that everybody deletes without reading.0 -
Thanks to you both- I just wanted to check I wasn't getting stitched by Orange, I've had a few 'interesting' experiences with them in the past!Regards
