  • Logic says it can't have been an avocado to have survived outside for years but whatever it was that looks exactly like one it suffered last year, some leaves went brown, it rallied growing replacement leaves it lost over summer, but it is now all brown. I think it has had it.

I lost my ever green clematis ,which was the most expensive thing in my garden!I have replaced it with a couple of cheapys from a local bargain store.
My mum had a huge montana along her garden wall and thats gone too, she was gutted as it looked really amazing!
Apart from that, we got off pretty lightly despite snow and ice for a month over christmas...some plants have suffered a bit of damage but are fighting back and my bleeding heart is 4 ft tall and better than ever!

I had to empty the kitchen windowsill quickly so they could put the new windows in and so thought I had lost all my bargain geraniums but I looked in the box the other day and they are all growing so repotted them quick - its amazing what survived the weather. I havent lost anything I am happy to say and even my solomans seal has re grown - pure luck as I just left the tub in a corner out of the way:T

Yep, my agave americana (in a pot) didn't make it outside. I also left in some dahlia tubers which have largely rotted in the ground. £50 tree fern survived :)

All in northern Home Counties BTW

I lost 2 hebe's. and 2 penstemons and a white hydrangea, i am really gutted about the hebe's as they were a present from my late mum, have left them in situ hoping to see a tiny green shoot......but nothing yet :-(

As others have said i thought i'd lost my hardy fushia (been in the same place since we moved into the house 16 years ago), but this last week it has started to get some green shoots.......hooray. Also the buddlea suffered terrible, so i cut it right back when the weather began to warm up abit, and there are a few shoots appearing.

None of the plants are expensive in my garden, as i like to rescue the cheap dying plants from the garden centres, and nurse them back to life (or try in some cases)

Sorry to hear about your hebes. Mine seem fine but there are so many varieties. If they don't come through maybe you could buy some more in memory of your mum?

The thing with plants is that mean much more to gardeners than what they cost. So many plants in my garden have been grown from seed or nurtured from tiny shoots, or have been bought for me, or remind me of something. I have a little sentimental attachment to most of them.
