Good Night Milk
Important Notice for vegetarians - Please note that from March 2010 our Good Night Milk will no longer be suitable for vegetarians. This is due to a change in the extraction method for the milk-based ingredients used in this product. Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused. Please look out for the important notice sticker on the lid of HiPP Organic Good Night Milk to confirm the change in this product.
I wonder how this will affect such people that follow a HALAL diet for instance.
HTH.

Do HiPP Organic milks contain prebiotics?
Taken from their website :Yes, HiPP Organic baby milks contain prebiotics.
Prebiotics are indigestible carbohydrates (oligosaccharides) and a source of dietary fibre. These special nutrients improve health by stimulating the growth of "friendly" gut bacteria.
Prebiotics are found in wholegrains, bananas, asparagus, artichokes, garlic, onions, tomatoes, chicory
Surely if that is where they are sourceing them from then it is still vegertarian based the only reference to animal products i can find is the LHA's that they add which come from fish oils and thought vegertarians will eat fish its vegans that wont eat any animal products at all. Sorry if that seems a bit ignorant but ive never had to cater for a vegetarian diet so i dont know :-):jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0 -
vegetarians do not eat fish.
pescetarians eat fish.
vegans additionally do not eat cheese, eggs, honey.
"rennet" is also used in the process now. Rennet is found in the stomachs of mammals and as far as I know you can't extract it when they are alive - it used to be a abyproduct of veal production.Debt free 4th April 2007.

"We decided that making the additions of PRÆBIOTIK® oligosaccharides and fish oils to our milks could significantly benefit all babies drinking our milks and this benefit was given priority over the very small number of babies that were being given our milks due to their vegetarian status (a recent poll of HiPP Organic baby milk users showed that only 1% used the milks because they were suitable for vegetarians). Although we sympathise with the dilemma this has left our vegetarian customers in, we strongly believe that the nutritional argument for adding these ingredients significantly outweighed the retaining of the vegetarian status of our milks."

Surely if for what ever belief/reason - religious, allery, life choice if someone is vegetarian/vegan whatever and if it is important that their child be vegetarian then its not 'nothing' to them, we should all respect others here. The op is simply informing others of the change, and i for 1 am thankful this had been pointed out
Thanks op0 -
I'm not a meat-eater myself but I have serious reservations about whether it's sensible to put babies and toddlers on a strict vegetarian diet.0

There's no probs with veggie kids. In a lot of the world due to religion everyone is veggie and has been for generation upon generation. There are lots of multi-generation veggie families here. Kids do fine as long as you are sensible about balancing it all out - if you are a 'only eat chips and cream cakes' veggie, then no, not good for kids (but then neither are the 'only eat chips and chicken nuggets' families.)Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j
OU student: A103 , A215 , A316 all done. Currently A230 all leading to an English Literature degree.
Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0 -

There's nothing wrong with a well balanced veggie diet for babies, children or adults.
As for 'Good Night Milk' - well I'll stick with either breast milk or simple organic cow's milk and give all the crap Hipp add a miss....0
