What?
I'm confused :rotfl:0 -
If the vehicle is UK registered but showing an NI plate, you can request to give up the NI plate and have a replacement UK age plate issued instead. If the vehicle previously had a UK plate then it should be free. But if the vehicle was imported from NI and it kept the NI plate when re-registered here, then DVLA may charge you £55 for the issue of it's 'first' UK registered plate.

How do I request this? Does it also apply to cars that have had other UK registrations put on them?

Ahh see I'm talking about buying a car that's already registered here that some nugget has put a NI / other stupid private plate on.
I was sure it could just be binned (well given back to the DVLA to sell :rotfl:)0 -

They used to be classed as imports until just over a year ago as technically NI has a separate licensing authority. However now they are simply re-registered as opposed to imported here. How do I request this? If the person has put an NI plate/any private plate on it then once you become the keeper (i.e. have logbook in your name) simply send the logbook, MOT and copy of tax disc to your local DVLA office and a letter stating you wish to give up all rights to the plate. It should take around 7 working days for them to re-issue the original plate, new tax disc and MOT. You will get a letter allowing you to get plate made up (at your cost).
This will mean that the NI/private plate will be voided and never re-issued again. DVLA do not buy them back.

Can I do it quicker in person?0 -
What?
I'm confused :rotfl:
Sorry to confuse, just my frustration at having lost a private plate at transfer, which is what I assumed(wrongly), you were doing. In those circumstances the car defaults to it's original plate after a certain time, if a UK car and if the plate has not been reissued, (unlikely).I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
