Yes we could fit it in the gap but we would also need a washing machine. I don't think we'll be able to afford any converting if we buy the house unfortunately. I think the only thing we could do would be to lose a cupboard which would be fine I just wondered if it was possible as I don't think they can go next to a cooker.

I plan to put my washer & dryer in DDs bedroom (when she moves out). Its next to the bathroom - dryer is a condenser, so will just need a cold water pipe & waste pipe poped through the wall from the bathroom:D

Could you do that with your washer? Or garage? Or good shed?

A thing I've seen on US TV is a washer & dryer fitted in a big cupboard (usually upstairs) like a large airing cupboard (but without the water tank), is that an option?

Or you could get a small counter-top dishwasher and put it to one side of the sink.

Personally I would hate a countertop DW, if you can't get the Sunday pots & pans in it, it wouldn't fit the bill for me.

It's called compromise. If you do not have room for everything that you would like, you have to choose which is the highest priority and do without one or the other.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Its not a tiny kitchen the OP has the option of taking out a cupboard or relocating the washing machine. Either of these would produce a better result than a mini dishwasher.

No, those options would provide space for a bigger dishwasher, whether that is a "better result" depends on the circumstances of the OP.

I've just sacrificed a floor cupboard to make room for a dishwasher. Best move I ever made.

I have a slimline dishwasher under the cupboard that houses my sink on the other side. I'd move anything to keep my dishwasher
