Childrens Socks???

Hi, might seem daft but my childrens socks are driving me round the twist! Appart from the usual mysterious lost or eaten by the washing machine they seem to either go misshapen, or develop holes in the toes or heels in a matter of weeks. Can anyone recommend somewhere selling good quality socks that don't cost too much?

Doesn't seem daft to me - I know what you mean - because of this I always get Mr T Extra value if I can.
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

For littlies (up to 5) I would recommend GAP.

I used to have the same problem on my own socks. I roll the elastic part over one of the pair before throwing them in the washing machine to stop them escaping. Sort of tuck one inside the other of the pair iyswim. Either that or get a washing bag from a pound shop to see it that helps.

I have to buy childrens socks as I find the "one size fits all" for adults useless (heel part ends up above my ankle). After shopping around, I have found John Lewis kids ones the longest lasting. Can't remember exactly how much but probably around £6 for five or something like that. Bought a pack last summer and no holes, no worn heels yet.

I buy socks in 30's.. or thereabouts.. we get tesco plain white ankle socks or bhs for my bunch..

keeping toe nails clipped short helps stop toe holes and heel holes tend to be from snags on the floorboards or door trims.. or pulling them up too far if they are a bit small.

No idea about how to stop the holes - grrr to my son who has been walking outside in just his socks today (only bought them yesterday!) - they won't last long. However, to keep the socks together in the washing machine, I use sockies from Lakeland.

No point spending a lot of money on socks - in my house they just seem to evaporate into thin air. I've got an "odd sock pile" of probably around 20 assorted socks. Occasionally I manage to match one of them up, but usually I'm adding to the pile, in the faint hope that one day I might find the missing ones...

lol, I had to laugh. My son's socks don't last long enough to get holes (he's four).., one of each and every pair has disappeared long before then. I have to get another set only a month or so after buying about 10 pairs from Peacocks (buy the cheapest cause they don't stay as pair's long enough to wear out). And this is after I have had a complete spring clean so I thought I must find loads of them under the beds or something. I found three which were reunited with their very lonely singleton socks but that was it.

Definitely have a very greedy sock monster in this household. Or does each house have its own sock black hole?

I have a bit of an aversion to bobbly socks. Possibly worrying!

I found the childrens character socks not only always clash with their outfits, yes I know I should not care(!) but that the threads inside from the design get caught up!

Now I buy a rough total of 20 plain dark, plain white, plus trainer socks, for me and the children about every 4-8 weeks from somewhere like primark. I was spending a fortune and they were not looking good after a few washes, so now they are near enough disposable!

The sock gobbler went to live elsewhere after I formulated a fool proof plan to eliminate 'odd' socks.

    I wear brown
    the ex wore black
    DSD wears white
    DS1 wears grey
DS2 is obvious cos he's so much smaller than us

Now we can each reach into our sock drawers and guarantee to pull out a pair without looking... :D
