Mine all have different colours too.. or different designs in the case of the 3 littlest... 2 share socks, 1 has different design but they are all white ankle socks. DS3 has black with blue and green motifs, DS2 has plain black, DD1 has plain black ankle socks, DD2 has plain black ankle socks .. with a pattern on. OH's are huge.. and mine are the odd ones.. :p

I buy GAP socks for my little girl. They are the best by a long way. They never fall down, they have a slip proof bottom, and they don't grow/shrink.

Another vote for GAP here. Size 12-24 month socks look as good as new after over 3 years worth of wear between DD and DS. Grips on soles stop slipping on laminate and smooth floors. Elastic never seems to go, they don't fall down and go all wrinkly.

If you keep an eye out, GAP often sell off their socks really cheap, I think we got the pairs we have at about 50p-£1 per pair in the sales.

Their tights are really good too, they don't wrinkle or fall down, elasitc lasts and they don't bobble.

Ahh the ever elusive sock monster is always striking in our house I just buy cheap and keep replacing them DD wears white DS wears black and bubs socks are the cheapest ones i can get but they dont get mixed up due to them being so small. I've bought tesco value ones the past few occasions at 5 pairs for a £1 and as yet have had no problems with holes in toes or heels i did find with the DS i have to buy him the next size up even though his shoe size is smaller than that stated that stopped my hole problem for him never had it with the DD and DS2 doesnt keep his socks on long enough for him to wear them out lol :-)

No point spending a lot of money on socks - in my house they just seem to evaporate into thin air. I've got an "odd sock pile" of probably around 20 assorted socks. Occasionally I manage to match one of them up, but usually I'm adding to the pile, in the faint hope that one day I might find the missing ones...

I used to do this, ended up with piles of odd socks. Then inspiration struck, and we realised that a sock is just a sock, and now we all just wear any two socks of about the same size, regardless of colour or pattern, unless we're going somewhere special. Who really cares or studies your socks anyway? And if they do, we just laugh it off as an odd family quirk. Nothing wrong with a bit of British eccentricity! We all wear trousers with socks though, might be different if the kids are wearing skirts with socks.

Have decided to go "up market" with DD's socks.......changed from Tesco to Sainsburys! :rotfl: seem to wash a bit better.

We have managed to be not to bad with the holes or with the sock monster but our main problem (and any advice gratefully accepted) is that with a child who refuses to wear slippers and a house that is all either laminate or tiles, all her socks end up looking filthy! The soles get that "ingrained" dirt which will not wash out so new socks end up looking disgusting after only a few wears.

Oh and I promise I do wash the floors on occassion!:o

Don'y buy white socks! Get dark blue, grey etc to go with school clothes, and patterned if she wants something funkier for weekends?

We also have a sock pile, use slippers and if I can I will try to darn them quickly - but normally they have holes in several places - so from now on there will be two sizes of socks - one size for the children (they're very close in shoe size) and one size for my husband - I'll wear his!! Saving money in the bargain
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

Ah I can dream! At 4yrs old she is obsessed with pink, lilac and anything girly! Dark colours don't get a look in.

Another vote for GAP socks here. They wash beautifully and feel comfortable. DS refuses to wear character patterned socks as he doesn't like the feel of the fabric.

As for the sock monster, I got fed up of losing my black socks to my husbands drawer, with him being adamant they were his. I now buy black socks with coloured heels and toes so he cannot get confused...;)
