Why do you want a credit card? Surely the point of BR is to wipe out your debts and not get into debt again?

Wait until you start applying for the big mainstream lenders can't see them lending to you. Then again you just don't know.

Are you still BR ..? If you are forget the whole idea as your BR can't have been a straight forward case if you got three years. I was BR in 2007 and got AD in 2008. Managed to get car finance in DEC 2008 then a mobile broadband ACC with orange in JAN 2009 but I had been with them for 12 years. Could not get a CC with any sub-prime providers untill last week, then Vanquis said yes on the second application.

Was the decision with Vanquis instant ?

    Hi

My OH was discharged last Feb and applied for a Vanquis card a couple of months ago. He was given a £250 limit which we clear every month. The only reason he has it is to rebuild his credit rating cos we want to buy a house for when we retire (well you can live in hope can't you)
It seems ridiculous that there are some places that really make life difficult for discharged BRs. My OH banks with the Co op yet they still won't allow him an ISA with them and after 8 months of them saying try again next month every month he went to the Chelsea and they opened an ISA without a problem. We haven't got much to save but its nice to even have a little emergency fund after years of panicking every time you got a flat tyre.
