From PAYG - Pay monthly

Been with 02 for ages on PAYG, bought an LG cookie in white last Oct.

Just logged into my 02 account to look at offers for me switching to pay monthly and can have 2 sim offers and keep my LG cookie or can have a free phone.

Unsure what to do, so after peoples thoughts please.

Option 1: simplicity - 12mth contract (300 mins, unlimited texts, unlimited 02 - 02 calls)

Option 2: simplicity - 30 day contract (100 mins, unlimited texts)

(these are just sim cards)

Option 3: Samsung pixon 8 megapixel camera one (free), 50mins, unlimited texts, 24mth deal

I've been into my local 02 shop and phones 4 u to see if i could look at a dummy samsung pixon but they no longer sell that one cos a new 12 megapixel camera one is out.

I don't really need a new phone, i like my LG cookie, but tempted to see what the samsung is like. But then again don't like the idea of being tied in for 24 mths.

The 30 day contract one to me stands out as really appealing cos don't have to give much notice to cancel if i doesn't suit me and i want to look for something better.

Use my ph more for texting people than ringing, im not one who spends ages phoning people, only ever do for short conversations.

Being on a 1 month contract is very useful - especially if you decide you do want to change your phone in a few months, or see a better offer from a different provider.

You could always phone them up and see if they can sweeten any of those deals for you.

That's why to me the 1 mth contract sounds better at the moment. I only put £10 a mth on my ph, then get free text msgs so obviously my balance only goes down when i phone people.

At the moment i am paying for my text msgs cos i haven't topped up, im over my monthly renew date of topping up to still get my free text msgs.

Thats why im liking the £10 a mth 30 day only sim card.

My LG cookie suites me for what i use my mobile for, hmmmm decisions decisions. Plus my cookie is locked to the 02 network.

If you never exceed 100 minutes, then the £10 30-day deal is best. If you don't want to tie yourself into a 12 month contract but need more minutes, look at the £15 30-day deal.

Don't be lured by a 24-month free phone contract. Do the sums first and see what you would be paying for your "free" handset.

There are a couple of Pixon's here, they are on T-Mobile though, so will need to unlock them for O2. Otherwise look at the T-Mobile SimOnly. I think they are slightly better than O2 for similar money, if you can get a signal where you are. Depends on what you're after in a phone. If the camera is not your primary use, have a look at the Pulse Mini that's just come out on T-Mobile for £99 PAYG or Nokia 5230 for similar money as an upgrade to your LG Cookie.

Otherwise if you're happy with your LG Cookie, then just get the O2 SimOnly. Not much point in spending more than you need to!

    Good luck.

I can vouch for the Nokia 5230. Great phone, but be sure to get a data plan to make the most out of it.

T Mobile have the same tariff at the £10 level, but you can get 100 minutes, unlimited texts and 1GB data for £15 a month/30 day.

The 5230 is a good phone - my GF has just got one from T-Mobile on the £15 30 day tariff.

One thing to note though - it does not have wifi.

Thanks all so much for the replies.

Must admit yes i was being lured into the free phone offer, purely because it was free, with not actually needing a phone to have that good of a camera because i actually already have a digital camera.

Thank for the suggestions of the 2 phones, actually really like the nokia 5320 as a kind of upgrade from my LG cookie.
