lol then they dropped the whole thing saying folks didnt want to play old games anyway

Really? Where did they get that one? Backward compatible PS3 consoles on Ebay are going for around £150 (if you're lucky), many people are trying to get them.

I have seen old Xbox's on freecycle, thats how cheap they have become.

Sony would fair well to produce the PS1.2.3 Control, I have 2 PS2's however I am stuck with one that has a hard drive built in with all the games stored on it to play, solely because the laser no longer works, its not strictly legal to sell it on, hence being stuck with it. ;)

Of course my slim one has the ability to play games from a USB stick, which ironically makes them run far faster and smoother than the disks.

It wont be long before the PS4 is out, I really think its poor that consoles go out of date so quickly, at least with my trustee PC, I can keep upgrading it as and when needed, on top of its ability to play PS1 & 2 Games via an emulator. (I imagine for now, a PS3 emulator would struggle - at least until hardware is advanced enough to handle it).

i played the likes of halo on the 360 and it does ramp up the visuals nicely

halo 2 was the best though

be a good while before the PS4 is out, they are extending the life cycle of consoles
the ps3 is heading for 4 years, the PS2 made 7 years lifecycle before the PS3 came out and ran beyond that

Sony have said the PS3 will have a 10 year lifecycle, which would put its replacement's release date around 2016.

Whatever happens, I think it'll be around for a while yet.

im no Sony fanboy  but the PS3 has plenty of life left in it
unfortunate they have dumbed its specs down though, given they originally cited it as a media hub for the home
