Agree with focae. If you are comfortable with Norton.

Pc world cheapest way to get NIS. Also very easy to update your version of NIS.

You need to create a Norton account.before you start. Free. After that, log in to your account and follow the instructions using your new key. All very user friendly, even for me.

The fact that Symantec charge twice as much for a renewal as a new version tells you all you need to know. Dump it.
It doesn't, actually - all the AV firms seem to do it (including Kaspersky...)

I have to plead ignorance, John, my excuse is that I get Kaspersky free through Barclays.:)

I think you should look on security software as buying peace of mind. It's like buying most other commodities. You choose one over another because you believe that it gives you better value or better service - whether it truly does or does not.

If you are happy with the price you pay and the software is doing what you want then that is what most people would think of as the ideal set up.

Personally, I would never pay for this type of software because I have always found that the free one that I use has never let me down.

That does not detract from the truth that others prefer to pay for similar products because they believe that, by paying a fee, they are getting better protection. It's similar to buying bottled water in preference to drinking tap water.

The previous posts all have there own views about which are the best products to use - some are valid and some are not. If you are happy with Norton then carry on using it at the discounted price - you can also get it at Amazon or Tesco for about £22 - £23.

Uninstall current version by downloading the Norton Removal Tool here:

    http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20080710133834EN

Update with the new version you bought earlier.

Thankyou very much for your post. I agree there are many other alternatives but my MIL is used to Norton and would be quie a hastle for her to learn something new. I will buy her a new copy and then uninstall when Norton expires.
Recently married and loving it x

But most decent AV programs don't have to be 'learned'. Once installed and set up, they just sit there quietly doing their stuff in the background.
If you don't get a virus alert, you'd probably never notice it was there.
The problem with Norton is that it is so intrusive (though I understand that the 2010 version is better in this respect).

Have used Norton and McAfee and Avast and Avg and Avira. Now with Windows 7 I find Microsoft Essentials works best. Have had no infections and no false alarms. Updates in the background with Windows updates and doesn't bother me with pointless messages, try to sell me the pro version, bombard me with adverts, or demand registration annually. I don't know it is there, which is what I want. If anyone doesn't agree I don't care. I am happy with it.

I love love LOVE this lol, in these kinda forums, everyone yet everyone has an opinion about whats the best internet security. Other than that, I have nothing useful to contribute. :)

Just insert the new version in your drive and follow the prompts. It automatically uninstals the old version and adds the number of days you had left on the old version to the 12 months of the new one.
