Microsoft Word software free?

There is a free, legitimate, download of the very latest version of Word, direct from Microsoft.
You can download a free, trial version of the whole of Microsoft Office Version 2010 Beta from :
http://www.microsoft.com/office/2010/en/default.aspx
which will work until this coming autumn when the final retail version is launched.0 -

I wouldn't recommend beta software for not so techie people. Since this is a "Money Saving" forum, OpenOffice is the best solution and it is for 99% of the people at least as good as MS Office.0 -
Thanks everyone. Very much appreciate all your help and input.:smileyhea0

i keep primo pdf (free)on the desktop
you just drag the document to the shortcut and it converts to PDF
handy when receiving/forwarding items and you want to quickly convert them0 -
I get Works formatted docs sometimes at from prospective employees. We don't have the ability to read them so not much we can do. RTF is a good option, even better as a PDF using OpenOffice as mentioned by the previous posters.
It's crazy that one MS product can't read another!
i stick with PDF unless instructed otherwise
even worse when you save in office 2007 version and older versions cant open it (i know they can get updates to do it but seem administrators dont on some netwroks)0 -

I was worrying about this so I sent my CV to them in both formats( before I posted on here that is). I thought with Works docs you could just convert them to a doc file and read them ok even if you were the recipient? Wouldnt you email the person back and ask for a different format or would that be a hassle? Ive been looking for work for ages now and the last thing I want to do is to ruin my chances by having the wrong software on my laptop!! Comments/advice Ive received from here will certainly come in handy!:smileyhea0 -
If you ever use any programme other than MS Word to save in .doc format you can always check it for 100% accuracy by downloading the free MS Word Reader link.
But as others say if they do not specify the format for something pdf is best. The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible.

Some recruiters take the MS Word doc and merge it straight into their own branded CVs etc for sending to clients (therefore promoting you)
Thats why PDF etc isnt preferred.
