How can I tell how fast an internet connection is?

Which would be slower, have far lower usage caps, and cost more (assuming the land line is needed anyway for home working).brightonman123 wrote: »have a look at mobile dongle deals

Might be worth seeing if your mobile provider does broadband.
As an o2 customer, I get 20mb broadband for just £7.00 a month - speed never drops bellow 10mb and I'm some distance from the nearest exchange.
Have had 2 bad experienced with Talk Talk.0 -
We have already established that the OP has no LLU options-so O2 LLU is not available. No free lunch, and no free laptop

shocking how many people either dont read or dont understand about LLU
anyways since you are looking for reliable broadband i woudl recommend either Zen interenet, NewNet or idnet as they generally have some of the best experiences from people, check out www.thinkbroadband.com in the forums as they have a forum for most ISP's and you can generally rate how happy people are from them,
yes it might cost a little bit more initially to get set up with them due to conection fee's and buying a modem however you are not tied in for 12 months (1 month contract) so if you are unhappy with them you can just get your MAC code and leaveDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
As this is for homeworking then I'd agree that good support is worth paying for and can't fault the list of ISPs you've given there gonzo based on what I've seen reported elsewhere.
I've no personal experience of any of them which is why I've been reluctant to mention any specifically - the only ones I've been with that were consitently any good for performance were LLU and even then in the end a duff line highlighted support shotcomings so I'm in the process of ditching ADSL in favour of cable.0 -

Thanks for all your comments. Its sounds like Zen interenet, NewNet and idnet are worth looking at first - they also score well on http://www.dslzoneuk.net/isp_ratings.php0

I would also consider ADSL24,Xilo,Aquiss and Vivaciti all around £20 a month for 30GB limit peak, unlimited off peak.
You should make sure your only on monthly contract as most of the above are.0 -
Don't go anywhere near adsl24 - I'm just moving away because of internet problems and inadequate support - They used to be good, but they have gone downhill since I joined over 2 years ago0
